Next week, November 12-17, in San Francisco, the United States and 20 countries are convening the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum. <\/strong>It\u2019ll feature both a CEO summit with over 1200 global corporate CEOs (including the CEOs of Exxon, Chevron, Citibank, various Big Tech companies) and 21 heads of state summit that includes U.S. President Joe Biden, President Xi Jinping of China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of the Philippines. Officials in San Francisco have dubbed it the \u201cSuper Bowl of World Economies.<\/em>\u201d But it\u2019s more of a Super Bowl of corporate lobbyists and authoritarian governments. APEC will have major impacts on the climate crisis, the global economy, human rights, worker rights and more for decades to come. <\/strong>Meanwhile, as corporate CEOs and lobbyists are keynoting panels with world leaders, <\/strong>the people have been completely shut out of these discussions. Furthermore, APEC will only greenwash the climate catastrophe we are facing and will do nothing to phase us out of an economy based on fossil fuels.Global Exchange is teaming up with allies to be sure our voices are heard.  There is a long history of mass resistance to the corporate state \u2014 from the Battle in Seattle to the anti-war shutdown of San Francisco in 2003 to Trump\u2019s 2017 inauguration\u2014 where many have put their bodies on the line to stop corporate globalization, war and environmental disaster. Local Bay Area climate justice organizers are part of a large coalition of labor, trade, diaspora, student, local communities and climate justice groups organizing saying NO to APEC\u2019s corporate agenda.
