So with a media blitz hitting the city, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman went on a not-very-well-known sports and business podcast called Front Office Sports Today to talk about sports matters in Las Vegas (the Super Bowl, an NBA team possibly coming to Las Vegas, a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/las-vegas-f1-valve-cover-expensive-d55f1bef2fe8c0816a2fdf92bf088d0a\">somewhat unsuccessful Formula One race<\/a>&nbsp;held there in November.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the not-very-well-known podcast Front Office Sports Today suddenly became a very well-known podcast in the hours since the interview was posted. And so I know the town like the back of my hand,\u201d Goodman said. \u201cI personally think they\u2019ve got to figure out a way to stay in Oakland and make their dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI\u2019ve lived in this town 60 years, and so I know the town like the back of my hand,\u201d Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman said. <br><br>\u201cI personally think they\u2019ve got to figure out a way to stay in Oakland and make their dream come true.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qJcv6QPEDa\">https:\/\/t.co\/qJcv6QPEDa<\/a><\/p>&mdash; San Francisco Chronicle (@sfchronicle) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sfchronicle\/status\/1754968225870168485?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 6, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goodman also sounded like she was not thrilled with the A\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sfist.com\/2023\/05\/15\/as-announce-agreement-for-new-vegas-ballpark-one-week-after-bailing-on-their-last-vegas-ballpark\/\">new proposed location on the Las Vegas Strip<\/a>&nbsp;at the Tropicana, which they announced just one week after saying they had&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sfist.com\/2023\/04\/20\/oakland-as-to-las-vegas-looks-like-a-done-deal-team-just-bought-stadium-site\/\">a different Vegas &nbsp;location<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(The Chronicle adds that the Strip is under the jurisdiction of Clark County, not Goodman\u2019s City Hall. So it seems apparent that Goodman would much prefer the A&#8217;s stick with their original site, just west of the Strip on Dean Martin Boulevard.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s in the historic, old part of town, which is where all major interstate highways come together,\u201d Goodman of her preferred site. \u201cWe have seven access points to it. It is in an opportunity zone. There are all these benefits. And so when they said no, I thought this doesn\u2019t make sense. Here\u2019s a great site. They can get a great price on it because it\u2019s owned by the city. We went out to reach for them, and yet no, they\u2019re going to go out and want to get closer to the Strip, with all the congestion and everything.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regardless, the shit has kind of hit the fan in Las Vegas since the podcast was posted Tuesday morning. Joe Lombardo to block the bill that gives the A&#39;s $380 million in stadium funding. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ViCvRJxkaa\">https:\/\/t.co\/ViCvRJxkaa<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EvanDrellich\/status\/1754646703053976047?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 5, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet there is other trouble looming, totally unrelated to the Las Vegas mayor\u2019s remarks, that can still upend the A\u2019s proposed move to Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Sun reported Monday that the political action committee of the Nevada State Education Association teachers union&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/lasvegassun.com\/news\/2024\/feb\/05\/teachers-group-suing-nevada-over-funding-for-as-st\/\">sued the state of Nevada over the $380 million<\/a>&nbsp;in public funding for the proposed A\u2019s ballpark.
