But there was a pro-Palestine protest on that date this year in El Cerrito (seen below), and according to a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/contracosta.news\/2024\/02\/28\/el-cerrito-police-arrest-man-who-burned-israeli-flag-and-assaulted-woman-during-protest\/\">release from the El Cerrito Police Department<\/a>, the demonstrators \u201ctook over the intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Carlson Boulevard for over an hour.\u201d Meanwhile, several counterprotesters stood on the sidewalk and waved Israeli flags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">ALBANY, CA &#8211; 01\/06\/24 &#8211; Hundreds of demonstrators In Albany and El Cerrito marched to protest the Israeli bombing of Gaza and demanded a ceasefire. The department added in an updated release two days later that \u201cA male protester pushed a woman down to the ground from behind, causing a minor injury, and took her Israel flag from her hands by force.\u201d The release added that \u201cHe then burned the flag in the street,\u201d and the department said they were investigating this as a hate crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hate crime investigation launched after protester attacked during ceasefire rally in El Cerrito\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/suDp73PcaZ0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One of those counterprotesters&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/sanfrancisco\/news\/el-cerrito-gaza-cease-fire-protest-man-accused-of-assault-burning-israeli-flag-arrested\/\">spoke with KPIX<\/a>&nbsp;in the segment above. &#8220;I was very shaken. I&#8217;m still shaken by it,&#8221; she told the station. &#8220;They rushed over to us, again, blocking us, and they started to grab our flags and our signs.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">He pushed a woman from behind to the ground &amp; forcefully snatched her Israel flag during protest march &amp; burned it, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ElCerritoPD?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ElCerritoPD<\/a>, seeking his ID &amp; investigating as hate crime <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/88g4WUwe9I\">pic.twitter.com\/88g4WUwe9I<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Henry K. Lee (@henrykleeKTVU) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/henrykleeKTVU\/status\/1744420724675399905?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 8, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Now according to the Bay Area News Group, police&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastbaytimes.com\/2024\/03\/04\/hayward-man-charged-with-hate-crime-for-allegedly-burning-israeli-flag-during-protests\/\">arrested 36-year-old Christopher Khamis Victor Husary<\/a>&nbsp;of Hayward on February 28. And last week, Contra Costa County prosecutors charged Husary with arson, grand theft, robbery, and a hate crime enhancement.
