But it may excite you a lot more that across town, in Civic Center Plaza, new sycamore trees were just installed in what KPIX reports on as a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/sanfrancisco\/news\/landscape-architect-has-new-vision-for-san-franciscos-civic-center-plaza\/\">grand new landscape design for the plaza<\/a>, a redesign that is rich with many more trees. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Plan for San Francisco&#039;s Civic Center Plaza will reintroduce vegetation\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MyjfbKOXH-0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The above&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MyjfbKOXH-0\">KPIX segment<\/a>&nbsp;details the addition of the first few new sycamore trees Rec and Parks just installed as part of this plan. Admittedly, there are only four new trees being added to the current batch, some of which are going on 90 years old. These sycamore trees are recognizable for their unique shape most noticeable when they&#8217;re leafless and they&#8217;ve been pruned, and they got their moment of fame in the 1978 Donald Sutherland horror classic&nbsp;<em>Invasion of the Body Snatchers<\/em>&nbsp;during that film\u2019s climactic scene. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2024\/04\/dionals-sutherland.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image: United Artists<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But as KPIX explains, there are big plans to add a lot more trees and significantly beautify the plaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2024\/04\/Civic-Center-Design_UrbanEcology_CMG_FullScreen_4480x2520.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image:&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmgsite.com\/places\/civic-center-public-space-design\/\"><em>CMG Landscape Architecture<\/em><\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The biggest goal of the plan is to reintroduce vegetation on a grand scale,&#8221; founding partner of the redesign firm CMG Landscape Architecture Willett Moss told the station . &#8220;In addition to the existing 350 trees, add another 300 trees.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2024\/04\/Civic-Center-Design_11_CMG_Fullscreen_4480x2520.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image:&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmgsite.com\/places\/civic-center-public-space-design\/\"><em>CMG Landscape Architecture<\/em><\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmgsite.com\/places\/civic-center-public-space-design\/\">website for this redesign<\/a>&nbsp;looks very exciting! And as KPIX points out, \u201cThere have been 10 different plans presented for Civic Center over the past 50 years.
