Come out and join the Berkeley community in a march advocating for People’s Park to remain a green space! Show your support as we declare to the UC Regents that People’s Park is a cornerstone of Berkeley\u2019s countercultural legacy and values.<\/h1>\n\n\n\n
Reducing any piece of People\u2019s Park is in direct violation of Berkeley\u2019s Measure L, passed in 1986, which requires the Berkeley City Council to preserve and maintain the public parks and open space which exist in Berkeley, as well as to acquire and maintain public parks and open space in the census tracts and neighborhoods of Berkeley having less than the minimum amount of open space relative to population (2 acres per 1,000). Rather than reduce People\u2019s Park, we need to increase parks and open space in this high density area, and we call on the University to cooperate and facilitate such expansion.<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The war in Ukraine has now been raging for two years and appears to be a stalemate, with devastating loss of life ongoing. Looking at the larger context, this talk challenges the assumption that Russia\u2019s attack was unprovoked. What is the role of the U.S. in this conflict, and what should it be? We are not a world court judging “rights” so much as people deciding war or peace. Ukraine is in its national epoch, as previously with Italy, Germany, or Serbia. Laughing off Putin’s historical claims shows our ignorance of history. The end of globalization is the return of great power politics, not the Cold War. Our period is not one of Cold War, but of the origins of world war three.<\/h1>\n\n\n\n
Anthony D\u2019Agostino is a Professor emeritus of History at San Francisco State University.. Now host of a YouTube show, Glasnost in Our Time. His articles and reviews have appeared in many magazines and journals and has made many appearances on radio and TV.
