On social media,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/thestanovision\/status\/1779880076395589652\">videos<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KTVU\/status\/1779879648148480315\">photos<\/a>&nbsp;show some protesters sitting in the freeway lanes with their arms locked to metal barrels, completely obstructing the road. A banner hung on on a fence nearby states that the protest is part of the April 15 day of action to create an \u201ceconomic blockade.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">All lanes of northbound Interstate 880 near Fifth Avenue in Oakland are blocked due a protest. \u201cEconomic blockade for a free Palestine\u201d Southbound lanes are at a crawl. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8pMOX5lKX3\">pic.twitter.com\/8pMOX5lKX3<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Stan Pechner (@thestanovision) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thestanovision\/status\/1779880076395589652?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 15, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Around 8 a.m., another group of protesters shut down traffic at another location on I-880 near the Broadway exit in downtown Oakland,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jesssmflores\/status\/1779887754169725347\">according to reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.a15action.com\/\">website<\/a>&nbsp;that appears to be linked to the protest states that the disruption is happening across the world. \u201c[I]n each city, we will&nbsp;identify and blockade major choke points in the economy, focusing on points of production and circulation&nbsp;with the aim of causing the most economic impact,\u201d the website states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A press release from the protest organizers states that there are protests in 56 cities across the world today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are also reports of disruptions at West Oakland BART. AC Transit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RideACTAlerts\/status\/1779878605352313055\">tweeted<\/a>&nbsp;this morning that some of its bus stops are blocked by protesters. Protesters say they\u2019ve encouraged thousands to gather this morning at West Oakland BART and that there will be other direct actions at Tesla in Fremont and the Warm Springs BART station later today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CHP appears to be trying to help drivers exit the freeway and the police are reportedly trying to remove the protesters from the barrel devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s also a reported protest on the Golden Gate Bridge in the southbound lanes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s protests are the latest mobilizations seeking an end to the war in Gaza. On Nov. 3, anti-war protesters attempted to prevent a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/oaklandside.org\/2023\/11\/03\/protest-port-of-oakland-gaza-ceasefire\/\">ship hauling military supplies<\/a>&nbsp;to Israel from leaving the Port of Oakland. Two weeks later, a group led by Jewish community members&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/oaklandside.org\/2023\/11\/14\/jewish-protest-oakland-ceasefire-gaza\/\">occupied Oakland\u2019s federal<\/a>&nbsp;building to demand a ceasefire. Two days later, pro-Palestinian activists&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/san-francisco-protesters-charged-israel-gaza-war-3f48ce5eecfb9f49b30bc989dbef0d25\">blockaded the Bay Bridge<\/a>&nbsp;during the APEC summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This is a developing story.
