Pedestrians will not walk on the sidewalk and will walk up O\u2019Farrell St against traffic. Senior citizens and children need access to the sidewalk as there are senior centers, assisted living areas, and schools. Open-air cooking with high flames. Feces, urine, trash, meth pipes, and needles all over the sidewalk. At this point, this is a health concern and it has not been addressed going on two months!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was the photo of the homeless encampment that was on the O\u2019Farrell side of the building:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/3-572x257.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"572\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/3-572x257.png 572w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/3-960x432.png 960w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/3-768x346.png 768w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/3-1536x691.png 1536w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/3.png 1920w\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"caption-attachment-50972\">The Homeless Encampment on O\u2019Farrell And Franklin Streets<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The priests kept calling the City for help but they kept getting this message from the City:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c<\/em><strong><em>CLOSED<\/em><\/strong><em>&nbsp;Comment Noted. Per Federal Judge Donna Ryu\u2019s injunction order, unable to move subjects at this time.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The sidewalk is not blocked and is currently ADA compliant.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=L9PUmSe52x8\">\u201cIt\u2019s A Sin\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a fire at that homeless encampment caused some serious damage to their building, the City cleared out the encampment. But, soon, the encampment came back to the very same spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The priests called the City again to clear out the encampment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even the San Francisco Fire Marshal told SFPD to go back there again to clear out the encampment after the fire as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/fires-in-the-tenderloin\/\">the&nbsp;<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/fires-in-the-tenderloin\/\">encampment posed dangers&nbsp;<\/a>to the 7 retired priests in their 70s and 80s who live in the building and failing to do so would be \u201cElder Abuse\u201d according to Father Jerry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nonetheless, the City couldn\u2019t help them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cNothing Good Happens After Midnight<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the shadow of darkness, burglars broke into their retirement home twice through the side door on O\u2019Farrell Street, where the encampment was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/4-572x257.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"572\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/4-572x257.png 572w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/4-960x432.png 960w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/4-768x346.png 768w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/4-1536x691.png 1536w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/4.png 1920w\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"caption-attachment-50973\">Burglars Broke Into The Priests\u2019 Retirement Home Through The Side<br>Door Of The Building Twice<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During one of the 2 break-ins, the burglars stole 2 cars which were later recovered by SFPD but badly damaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cGardening With Soul\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the break-ins, the City cleared out the encampment again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The priests then immediately joined the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/urban-garden-district\/\">SF\u2019s Urban Garden District<\/a>&nbsp;club by installing garden planters, just&nbsp;like other fed-up&nbsp;property owners in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/cathedral-hill-has-gone-downhill\/\">the Cathedral Hill neighborhood<\/a>, on the O\u2019Farrell side of their building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the encampment that was on O\u2019Farrell Street just moved to the Franklin Street side of their building while their planters were still being installed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/5-572x257.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"572\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/5-572x257.png 572w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/5-960x432.png 960w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/5-768x346.png 768w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/5-1536x691.png 1536w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/5.png 1920w\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"caption-attachment-50974\">The Homeless Encampment In Front of 1100 Franklin Street<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One day, I saw a man with his pregnant wife had to walk on the street, as the sidewalk was not accessible, on their way to the nearby California Pacific Medical Center on Franklin Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man said to me, \u201cMy wife is having a baby. This is insane. Why can\u2019t the City do anything about this [the encampment]?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the security guard of Harry R. Bridges Memorial Building at 1188 Franklin which is next to the Priests\u2019 retirement home, he had been punched several times and almost got stabbed with a machete by drug dealers for asking them not to block&nbsp;the&nbsp;sidewalks on Myrtle and Franklin Streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He had recently left his job as a security guard at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.loopnet.com\/Listing\/1188-Franklin-St-San-Francisco-CA\/29635753\/\">Harry R. Bridges Memorial Building<\/a>&nbsp;which currently has 3000-6,493 square feet of office space available for lease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The encampment was there for more than a month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the City cleared out the encampment on the Franklin Street sidewalk, the priests wanted to install garden planters there as well but the sidewalk is not wide enough&nbsp;to meet&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sfstandard.com\/2024\/03\/28\/planters-permit-residents-outraged\/\">the City\u2019s new rules on sidewalk garden planters<\/a>&nbsp;according to Father Jerry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/6-572x257.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"572\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/6-572x257.png 572w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/6-960x432.png 960w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/6-768x346.png 768w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/6-1536x691.png 1536w, https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/6.png 1920w\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"caption-attachment-50975\">Father Jerry Who Lives In The Priests\u2019 Retirement Home<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are now worried that the encampment will come back again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Drug dealers and addicts have now moved just a block and two blocks away to Ellis and Eddy Streets between Franklin Street and Van Ness Avenue, a stone\u2019s throw from Sacred Heart School and Oasis Inn, the St. Anthony\u2019s Kaplan Oasis Family Shelter for unhoused women, children, and families on Franklin Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/beyondchron.org\/city-destroys-van-ness-planters-after-hostile-activist-pressure\/\">the neighbors there have been calling the City for help<\/a>&nbsp;as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their insurance company has told them that they will not be covered if there is another incident at their retirement home according to Father Jerry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All the retired priests want is a peaceful life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are praying for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NZVUuq0Birc\">an angel<\/a>&nbsp;in a \u201d black robe\u201d to help them find their way out of the dark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are not anti-homeless.
