Liberal documentary filmmaker Lauren Windsor\u2019s team spoke to the \u201cdirty trickster\u201d of right-wing politics at an event at Mar-a-Lago<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

If there\u2019s anything more alarming than Donald Trump and his allies\u2019 plans to wreak havoc on the 2024 election, it\u2019s how comfortable they are telling anyone who asks exactly what they plan to do. In an undercover recording obtained by liberal journalist Lauren Windsor, longtime Trump consultant and professional electoral agitator Roger Stone brags that the former president and his cadre are on \u201coffensive footing\u201d ahead of the election, and are better prepared to challenge election results in November than they were in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt least this time when they do it, you have a lawyer and a judge \u2014 his home phone number standing by \u2014 so you can stop it,\u201d Stone says at one point. \u201cWe made no preparations last time, none \u2026 There are technical, legal steps that we have to take to try and have a more honest election. We\u2019re not there yet, but there\u2019s things that can be done.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The audio, which was provided exclusively to Rolling Stone,<\/em> includes two conversations \u2014 one between Windsor and Stone and one between Windsor\u2019s colleague Ally Sammarco and Stone \u2014 recorded at a Catholics Prayer for Trump event on March 19 at Mar-a-Lago, the former president\u2019s Florida club. Stone was the keynote speaker at the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In candid conversations with the two women \u2014 who posed as fans \u2014 Stone expresses cautious optimism about Trump\u2019s election chances while painting a rosy picture of his legal troubles. At one point, Stone predicts that Judge Aileen Cannon would soon dismiss the Justice Department\u2019s classified documents case against the former president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are beating them,\u201d Stone tells Sammarco. \u201c[Trump\u2019s] trial in Georgia is falling apart. I think the judge is on the verge of dismissing the charges against him in Florida. They\u2019re delayed in New York City and they\u2019re now delayed in Washington.\u201d Trump has since been convicted on 34 felony counts<\/a> of falsifying business records in his New York hush-money trial. Judge Cannon has made decisions that have benefitted<\/a> Trump in the classified documents case, although just last week she rejected his bid<\/a> to have the case outright dismissed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stone also indicates that the MAGA movement is fully prepared to pull a variety of levers to ensure Trump defeats Biden this November. When Sammarco asks Stone what would stop Trump\u2019s opponents from committing \u201cvoter fraud\u201d like \u201cballot harvesting,\u201d Stone replies that \u201cin some states, it\u2019ll be easier to stop. In other places, it won\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe should be suing in half a dozen places,\u201d Stone adds. \u201cI mean we\u2019re finally now on an offensive footing.\u201d Stone goes on to tell Sammarco that \u2014 now that the Republican National Committee is under MAGA control \u2014 they can spend \u201clots more\u201d money on election monitoring. He also points to \u201cchanges in state law, real-time voter list monitoring, going to court as we just did to challenge some of the vote laws,\u201d and that \u201cwe went into court to sue in Michigan over the hand [written] ballots.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
