Here\u2019s the latest.<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>President Biden on Wednesday faced a fresh wave of pressure to end his campaign or rethink his decision to run for re-election, as Democrats from Hollywood to Capitol Hill aired grave concerns that he is set to lose to former President Donald J. Trump in November and drag his party\u2019s chance of controlling Congress down with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, the former House speaker and a longtime Biden ally, gave the strongest public signal yet that Democrats are still divided on Mr. Biden\u2019s insistence that he is staying in the race, saying that \u201ctime is running short\u201d for him to make a decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on MSNBC\u2019s \u201cMorning Joe,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2024\/07\/10\/us\/biden-trump-election?campaign_id=190&amp;emc=edit_ufn_20240710&amp;instance_id=128378&amp;nl=from-the-times&amp;regi_id=99029416&amp;segment_id=171760&amp;te=1&amp;user_id=ea6fd6b2c84b713eae97bed51e63ff04#pelosi-biden-drop-out\">Ms. Pelosi, 84, said that she would back Mr. Biden<\/a>, \u201cwhatever he decides.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Biden, 81, has said his mind is made up about continuing his campaign and scheduled&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2024\/07\/10\/us\/biden-trump-election?campaign_id=190&amp;emc=edit_ufn_20240710&amp;instance_id=128378&amp;nl=from-the-times&amp;regi_id=99029416&amp;segment_id=171760&amp;te=1&amp;user_id=ea6fd6b2c84b713eae97bed51e63ff04#biden-interview-nbc-lester-holt\">a sit-down interview for Monday with NBC News<\/a>, his second major network interview since his poor debate performance last month. He has called on Democrats to come together behind him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hours after Ms. Pelosi\u2019s comments, Representative Pat Ryan of New York, one of the most vulnerable Democratic incumbents, said Mr. Biden should drop out \u201cfor the good of the country,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2024\/us\/elections\/biden-drop-out-democrats.html\">becoming the eighth House Democrat<\/a>&nbsp;to publicly do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And George Clooney, the Hollywood actor who last month hosted a $28 million fund-raiser in Hollywood for Mr. Biden, added his voice to the calls for the president to end his candidacy, saying in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/07\/10\/opinion\/joe-biden-democratic-nominee.html\">a New York Times guest essay<\/a>&nbsp;that he had seen Mr. Biden\u2019s decline up close. \u201cIt\u2019s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/richard-adams-blog\/2010\/mar\/23\/us-healthcare-reform-obama-law\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">big F-ing deal<\/a>\u2019 Biden of 2010,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Gov. Gavin Newsom of California,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/07\/09\/us\/politics\/biden-gavin-newsom.html?\">who campaigned for Mr. Biden<\/a>&nbsp;in several swing states over the weekend, reiterated at a news conference that he remains \u201call in\u201d with the president. \u201cThe support on the ground was demonstrable,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s where I am. That\u2019s where I stand.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even so, the drumbeat of skepticism about Mr. Biden\u2019s viability among lawmakers, donors and party officials has only grown louder. His defiant public refusals to withdraw early this week appeared to freeze many Democrats in place, sapping momentum for a mass move to push him aside, but they hardly rallied nervous Democrats around his candidacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Richard Blumenthal, Democrat of Connecticut, on Wednesday told reporters: \u201cI am deeply concerned about Joe Biden winning this November.\u201d He said the party had to \u201creach a conclusion as soon as possible\u201d while still reiterating that he supported Mr. Biden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Peter Welch, Democrat of Vermont, said that his hope was that \u201cthe concerns that are being expressed are being heard, even if not yet acknowledged.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added: \u201cI want him to look at the evidence and make a hard decision. He\u2019s earned that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what to know:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Democrats remain divided<\/strong>: Ms. Pelosi\u2019s comments appeared designed to give alarmed Democrats, who so far&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/07\/09\/us\/politics\/biden-democrats-congress.html\">are mostly falling in line behind Mr. Biden<\/a>, space to pivot in the coming days given the deep divide inside the party about whether his candidacy is viable. But the former speaker quickly moved to walk back any suggestion that she was suggesting that he leave the race. \u201cThe president is great, and there are some misrepresentations of what I have said,\u201d she said in a statement to The New York Times. \u201cI never said he should reconsider his decision. The decision is the president\u2019s. I don\u2019t know what\u2019s happened to The New York Times that they make up news. It isn\u2019t true.\u201d Later in the day, she told ABC News that she thought Mr. Biden could win in November.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/07\/10\/us\/politics\/biden-campaign-strategy.html\">The logistics of replacing him grow more difficult by the day.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fears of a G.O.P. landslide<\/strong>: Senator Michael Bennet, Democrat of Colorado, said in an interview with CNN on Tuesday night that he&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2024\/07\/10\/us\/biden-trump-election\/senator-michael-bennet-says-democrats-must-come-to-grips-with-the-risk-that-biden-could-lose?smid=url-share\">did not think Mr. Biden could beat Mr. Trump<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 although he stopped short of publicly urging Mr. Biden to end his campaign. \u201cI think we could lose the whole thing,\u201d Mr. Bennet said, warning of a \u201clandslide\u201d in the presidential race and referring to both chambers of Congress. He added, \u201cThe White House has done nothing since the debate to demonstrate they have a plan to win this election.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Today on the trail:<\/strong>&nbsp;Mr. Biden met with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2024\/07\/10\/us\/biden-trump-election?campaign_id=190&amp;emc=edit_ufn_20240710&amp;instance_id=128378&amp;nl=from-the-times&amp;regi_id=99029416&amp;segment_id=171760&amp;te=1&amp;user_id=ea6fd6b2c84b713eae97bed51e63ff04#biden-union-afl-cio-election\">union leaders at the A.F.L.-C.I.O. who remain concerned<\/a>&nbsp;about his candidacy, and foreign dignitaries in Washington a day after delivering a forceful speech to NATO allies. He was also set to meet with Keir Starmer, the newly elected British prime minister, in the evening. Vice President Kamala Harris addressed a sorority convention in Dallas, where she attacked Mr. Trump, saying he had \u201copenly vowed that if re-elected he\u2019ll be a dictator on Day 1.\u201d Mr. Trump has no campaign stops scheduled.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ABC anchor apologizes:&nbsp;<\/strong>The ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos was surreptitiously recorded on Tuesday&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2024\/07\/10\/us\/biden-trump-election?campaign_id=190&amp;emc=edit_ufn_20240710&amp;instance_id=128378&amp;nl=from-the-times&amp;regi_id=99029416&amp;segment_id=171760&amp;te=1&amp;user_id=ea6fd6b2c84b713eae97bed51e63ff04#tmz-george-stephanopoulos-biden\">saying that he did not believe that Mr. Biden could handle another term in office<\/a>. Mr. Stephanopoulos publicly apologized later, saying he shouldn\u2019t have \u201cresponded to a question from a passerby.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A projection edges Republican:<\/strong>&nbsp;The Cook Political Report, a nonpartisan election forecaster,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cookpolitical.com\/analysis\/national\/national-politics\/six-states-move-toward-trump-electoral-college-ratings?check_logged_in=1\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">moved<\/a>&nbsp;Electoral College projections in six states in Mr. Trump\u2019s direction.
