The U.S. State Department will not withhold arms from Israel, according to State Department officials, a month after the White House sent a letter<\/a> to Israel stating the Jewish state had 30 days to improve the humanitarian conditions for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip or be subject to an arms embargo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken seemed to indicate that the requirements had been met. According to a readout of a meeting between Blinken and Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, the two \u201creviewed steps that Israel has taken to improve the dire humanitarian situation inside Gaza,\u201d including a recent Gaza aid package<\/a> approved by the Israeli cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following day at a press briefing, Vedant Patel, principal deputy spokesperson, was pressed for a concrete answer. He stated that Israel had taken \u201ca number of steps to address the measures laid out in the letter,\u201d and as such, \u201cwe at this time have not made an assessment that the Israelis are in violation of U.S. law.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked if Israel would face any consequences, Patel responded: \u201cI certainly don\u2019t have a change in U.S. policy to announce today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that Israel still must take \u201cadditional steps\u201d to improve the humanitarian conditions in the coastal enclave, echoing Blinken\u2019s earlier conversation, which stated that Israel must ensure \u201cthose changes lead to an actual improvement in the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blinken also reaffirmed America\u2019s \u201cironclad\u201d commitment to Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U.S. President Joe Biden said the same in a meeting<\/a> with Israeli President Isaac Herzog at the White House on Tuesday, saying his administration\u2019s \u201ccommitment to Israel is ironclad, and we share a deep friendship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President-elect Donald Trump also spoke<\/a> with Dermer at Trump\u2019s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. The minister reportedly conveyed messages to Trump from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, discussing Israel\u2019s plans in Gaza and Lebanon as it continues to battle Hamas and Hezbollah amid ongoing tensions with Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
