The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2025\/01\/prominent-s-f-asian-democratic-club-drops-out-of-local-democratic-party\/\">Rose Pak Asian American Club<\/a>&nbsp;dropped out on Jan. 22, citing distrust among monolingual Chinese seniors towards Democrat-endorsed candidates during the 2024 election cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe San Francisco Democratic Party has repeatedly failed to prioritize or even acknowledge critical issues facing Latinos,\u201d read a statement put out by the Latinx Democratic Club on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newspack-missionlocal.s3.amazonaws.com\/mission\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/mission-local-logo-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Mission Local logo, with blue and orange lines on the shape of the Mission District\" class=\"wp-image-639216\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Want the latest on the Mission and San Francisco? Sign up for our&nbsp;<strong>free daily newsletter<\/strong>&nbsp;below.Sign up<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifically, the group claimed that the local Democratic Party \u201crefused to author or support resolutions condemning recent national attacks on birthright citizenship and constitutional rights\u201d for Latinx and immigrant communities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is unclear what the group is referring to. In February, the party passed a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1ZPJOe-F555uUE_82IqTa7w4J-DuUGws7\/view\">resolution<\/a>&nbsp;\u201copposing Donald Trump\u2019s dangerous agenda for San Francisco\u201d and naming the \u201cimmigrant community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI wish them well,\u201d Tung wrote simply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Latinx Club has recently faced scandal. The club\u2019s co-president Kevin Ortiz took a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2024\/07\/latino-leader-steps-aside-after-allegations-of-sexual-misconduct\/\">leave of absence<\/a>&nbsp;last July days after a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/sf\/article\/new-allegations-against-s-f-politico-democrats-19552577.php\"><em>San Francisco Chronicle<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;story detailed allegations of sexual misconduct back in 2021; no charges were filed against Ortiz, who maintained his innocence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The club\u2019s other co-president, Deldelp Medina,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@deldelp\/my-resignation-as-co-president-of-the-san-francisco-latinx-democratic-club-42614a7b2133\">resigned<\/a>&nbsp;a day after the&nbsp;<em>Chronicle\u2019s<\/em>&nbsp;coverage. The club announced Ortiz\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2025\/01\/kevin-ortiz-back-as-latinx-democratic-club-president-after-sexual-assault-probe\/\">return<\/a>&nbsp;on Jan. 6, saying an internal investigation did not support the allegations against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Back in 2022, nine of 11 members of the club\u2019s board resigned,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/25870752-latinx-democratic-club-2022-resignation-letter\/\">referencing<\/a>&nbsp;a \u201cpattern of abusive behavior\u201d from Ortiz. The Latinx Club, in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sflatinodemocrats.com\/san_francisco_latinx_democratic_club_response_to_falsehoods_made_by_previous_executive_board\">response<\/a>, denied the allegations and said \u201cthese attacks only harm the Latino community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group, in its letter leaving the local Democratic Party, also criticized the fact that only one Latino, John Avalos, currently serves on the Democratic County Central Committee, even though 16 percent of San Francisco\u2019s population is Latinx. Those positions are elected in a citywide vote, however, not appointed by any official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group also condemned the fact that Tung appointed Eric Kingsbury, instead of a person of color, to fill in the seat left behind by former District 2 Supervisor Catherine Stefani, who was elected to the State Assembly.&nbsp;Stefani is also white.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe did not make the decision with equity in mind,\u201d said Michael Rouppet, the club\u2019s co-vice president of political affairs, of Kingsbury\u2019s appointment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rouppet said two other local Democratic clubs had reached out to talk about leaving the local Democratic Party, too.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe membership feels strongly about this, and voted nearly unanimously to step away from the San Francisco Democratic Party,\u201d Rouppet said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are reclaiming our space outside a local party that has failed us, and will charter under separate Democratic party entities,\u201d the club wrote in their announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark>LATEST NEWS<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2025\/03\/daniel-lurie-1500-homeless-shelter-beds-goal\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newspack-missionlocal.s3.amazonaws.com\/mission\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Lurie-1200x900.jpg\" alt=\"When is a bed not a bed?
