Can you believe the Department of Homeland Security just sent this message out on Twitter? Outrageous!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right now, federal agents are attacking Scott Wiener by name \u2014 because he dared to demand transparency from law enforcement. DHS is lashing out on social media, calling his bill “despicable” and defending masked, unidentified officers operating in our communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s be clear: Scott is being targeted for standing up for democracy. And he needs us now more than ever.<\/strong>

Across California and the country, masked federal agents are roaming our neighborhoods pretending to be local police \u2014 detaining workers, students, and families without warning, and without accountability. In some horrifying cases, people have disappeared and been sent overseas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s why Scott has introduced the No Secret Police Act to end this reckless and dangerous abuse of power by banning law enforcement from covering their faces and requiring them to show visible ID to rebuild public trust and protect communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We saw the dangerous consequences of masked, unidentifiable officers this weekend in Minnesota when an assailant impersonated a police officer and murdered state officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This isn\u2019t law enforcement. It\u2019s authoritarianism \u2013 and DHS\u2019s attack on Scott is out of line. It\u2019s Scott\u2019s job to protect Californians \u2013 that\u2019s exactly what he\u2019s doing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
