<\/figure>\n\n\n\nJuly 17 rally marks anniversary of Representative John Lewis\u2019 death amidst escalating government attacks on civil, human rights<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\nRegistered nurses and members of California Nurses Association (CNA) will host a John Lewis Day \u201cGood Trouble Lives On\u201d rally at noon on Thursday, July 17 in Oakland, Calif. The event is part of a nationwide day of action to honor the legacy of the late civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis who died on July 17, 2020 at the age of 80 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCongressman John Lewis stands as a model for us all to speak up and speak out when we see injustice and to get into what he famously termed \u2018good, necessary trouble,\u2019\u201d said Cathy Kennedy, RN and president of CNA. \u201cAs the federal government attacks the most vulnerable in our communities, nurses fight back against these unjust assaults. We are deeply fearful for the health and welfare of the 3.4 million Californians who will lose their medical coverage due to the passage of the Big Bad Bill. Now is the time to come together to, as Congressman Lewis said, \u201credeem the soul of America.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
