Angus King of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/maine\">Maine<\/a>, who caucuses with Democrats,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/democrats-cave-on-government-shutdown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">joined<\/a>&nbsp;Republicans for both the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_votes\/vote1191\/vote_119_1_00617.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">procedural<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_votes\/vote1191\/vote_119_1_00618.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">final<\/a>&nbsp;votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike the upper chamber, Republicans have enough members in the House to advance legislation without Democratic support. The GOP\u2019s continuing resolution neither reverses&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/medicaid\">Medicaid<\/a>&nbsp;cuts from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/budget\">budget<\/a>&nbsp;package that President&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/donald-trump\">Donald Trump<\/a>&nbsp;signed in July nor extends expiring tax credits for people who buy health insurance on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/affordable-care-act\">Affordable Care Act<\/a>&nbsp;exchanges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd now people\u2019s healthcare costs are going to be skyrocketing, and we want to make sure that we have a path to ending this moment, and finding relief for them right now,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez told&nbsp;<em>CNN<\/em>. \u201cBut I think that when we talk about this debate about the Democratic Party, that it is indeed about the party writ large, and our ability to fight or not.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/chuck-schumer-resign\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">no senators<\/a>&nbsp;in the caucus have demanded that Schumer step aside yet,&nbsp;<em>The Hill<\/em>&nbsp;on Wednesday&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/5602591-democrats-dissent-schumer-leadership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">compiled<\/a>&nbsp;comments from the growing list of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/house-democrats\">House Democrats<\/a>&nbsp;who have called for new leadership: Reps. Glenn Ivey (Md.),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/ro-khanna\">Ro Khanna<\/a>&nbsp;(Calif.), Mike Levin (Calif.), Seth Moulton (Mass.),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/ayanna-pressley\">Ayanna Pressley<\/a>&nbsp;(Mass.),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/mark-pocan\">Mark Pocan<\/a>&nbsp;(Wis.), Delia Ramirez (Ill.), Shri Thanedar (Mich.), and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/rashida-tlaib\">Rashida Tlaib<\/a>&nbsp;(Mich.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a video circulated by\u00a0<em>C-SPAN\u00a0<\/em>on Wednesday, a reporter directly asked Ocasio-Cortez whether Schumer should stay in his leadership role. Cortez Masto, Hassan, and Fetterman have until&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/senators\/Class_III.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2028<\/a>, while Kaine, King, and Rosen have until&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.senate.gov\/senators\/Class_I.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2030<\/a>. She suggested that those who run for another term are hoping that \u201cpeople are going to forget this moment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think what\u2019s important is that we understand that&#8230; a leader is a reflection of the party. And Senate Democrats have selected their leadership to represent them,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez said. \u201cAnd so, the question needs to be bigger than just one person. We have several Senate primaries this cycle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI know I\u2019m being asked about New York. That is years from now.
