The leadership of the nearly 100-member Congressional Progressive Caucus said Tuesday that it will \u201coppose all funding\u201d for US immigration<\/a> enforcement in any upcoming government appropriations bills without substantial reforms, a position laid out as federal agents unleashed by President Donald Trump<\/a> continued to terrorize communities across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rep. Ilhan Omar<\/a> (D-Minn.), deputy chair of the CPC, said during a press conference alongside other caucus members that \u201cdemanding accountability is not radical.\u201d Omar represents the district where 37-year-old Renee Good was shot and killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement<\/a> (ICE) agent Jonathan Ross last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCalling for systematic reforms is not extreme,\u201d Omar continued. \u201cThis is the bare minimum required to restore safety and justice back to our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Omar, a frequent target of Trump\u2019s bigotry, said the CPC\u2019s official position is to \u201coppose all funding for immigration enforcement in any appropriation bills until meaningful reforms are enacted to end militarized policing practices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe cannot and we should not continue to fund agencies that operate with impunity, that escalate violence, and that undermine the very freedoms this country claims to uphold,\u201d the congresswoman said. \u201cICE has no place in terrorizing Minneapolis or any American community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
