US Rep. Rashida Tlaib<\/a> on Tuesday urged President Donald Trump\u2019s Cabinet to immediately invoke the 25th Amendment and remove him from office following his genocidal threat<\/a> to wipe out the \u201cwhole civilization\u201d of Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfter bombing a school and massacring young girls, the war criminal in the White House<\/a> is threatening genocide<\/a>,\u201d Tlaib (D-Mich.) wrote on social media<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s time to invoke the 25th Amendment. This maniac should be removed from office.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of Tlaib\u2019s colleagues echoed her demand. Rep. Mark Pocan<\/a> (D-Wis.) wrote that \u201cTrump is too unhinged, dangerous, and deranged to have the nuclear codes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c25th Amendment RIGHT NOW,\u201d Pocan added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) said in response to Trump\u2019s openly genocidal Truth Social post Trump \u201cjust threatened to slaughter 100 million people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s clear he\u2019s unfit to be president, the 25th Amendment must be invoked,\u201d wrote Thanedar. \u201cIf Vance, Rubio, and the others continue to be spineless cowards, Congress must do everything possible to stop Trump and this war.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rep. Ro Khanna<\/a> (D-Calif.), who led the push in the US House<\/a> for a war powers resolution to stop Trump\u2019s illegal assault on Iran, told Common Dreams that he also thought the president should be removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen an American president threatens the extinction<\/a> of a civilization,\u201d said Khanna, \u201cwe should be looking to invoke the 25th and remove him if Congress is to have value and independence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 25th Amendment gives the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet\u2014or a majority of a body established by Congress\u2014to declare the president \u201cunable to discharge the powers and duties of his office\u201d and remove him from the position, elevating the vice president to serve as acting president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given the composition of Trump\u2019s Cabinet\u2014which is filled with sycophants<\/a> who lavish the president with praise at every opportunity\u2014any 25th Amendment push would likely be doomed to fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Trump\u2019s Cabinet has nevertheless faced growing calls to use the tool since the president\u2019s Easter-morning outburst warning Iranian leaders to \u201copen the Fuckin\u2019 Strait [of Hormuz], you crazy bastards, or you\u2019ll be living in Hell.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dylan Williams, vice president for government affairs at the Center for International Policy, warned the president\u2019s Cabinet officials on Tuesday that \u201cif you take any part in assisting this, you too will be guilty of the crime of genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUse the 25th Amendment now to lawfully remove Trump from office,\u201d Williams urged. \u201cCongress: This is an impeachable offense. Come back to DC now ready to impeach and convict Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Iranian American Council said in a statement that the president\u2019s \u201cinsane, genocidal\u201d threat to wipe out the \u201cwhole civilization\u201d of Iran must be \u201cwholeheartedly condemned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMilitary leaders are not bound to follow unlawful orders, including but not limited to the destruction of civilian targets and making good on this outrageous threat,\u201d the group added. \u201cWe call on President Trump to recant this abominable threat against 92 million Iranians. If he does not, both Congress and his Cabinet must be prepared to remove him from office via lawful means.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
