The Warriors\u2019 offseason of uncertainty has gotten a whole lot more certain with the return of the team\u2019s head coach, Steve Kerr<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 60-year-old former NBA player and executive will extend his Golden State tenure for a 13th and 14th year, according to ESPN’s\u00a0Shams Charania<\/a>, who also said that the two-year deal will keep Kerr as the\u00a0highest paid coach<\/a>\u00a0in the NBA annually. He made $17.5 million last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was far from a guarantee that Kerr would come back and coach the Dubs. While he said he wouldn\u2019t want to abandon his longtime players<\/a> in Steph Curry and Draymond Green \u2014 especially with Curry\u2019s return being a given \u2014 a few reports in the aftermath of Golden State\u2019s play-in elimination made it more a matter of if he\u2019d be at Chase Center for another year, rather than when.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First came what sure looked like an emotional goodbye<\/a> to Curry and Green in the final moments<\/a> of the loss to the Suns last month. Green himself even said he believed this would be the end<\/a> of Kerr\u2019s time with the Warriors on his season-end podcast. NBC Sports Bay Area\u2019s Monte Poole added to that sentiment with a report<\/a> that Kerr likely would be \u201ccomfortably jobless\u201d soon. Then there were the multiple reports that Warriors brass wasn\u2019t too keen on the coach\u2019s political outspokenness<\/a>, as well as reported plans of a major overhaul<\/a> in case of Kerr\u2019s departure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kerr also didn\u2019t do much to dispel the rumors between the sudden New Yorker profile<\/a> and hanging around ESPN<\/a> senior writer, and profiler extraordinaire, Wright Thompson toward the end of the season. Speaking of ESPN, the network also reportedly tried to get him to come back to the broadcast side of things<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However,\u00a0momentum started to shift<\/a>\u00a0at the start of May, with Kerr\u2019s return seemingly\u00a0always possible. Meetings with Dubs upper management went well, and Kerr still\u00a0had visions for the future<\/a>\u00a0of the Warriors. Given the news Saturday, it\u2019s safe to say the meetings went better than\u00a0Klay Thompson\u2019s offseason meetings<\/a>\u00a0nearly two years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s still a lot for Golden State to figure out this offseason as its greatest player in franchise history prepares for another late-career season, but at least the organization can check one thing off its long list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
