Of course the government should not give money to anyone who fought to overthrow it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>But the worry that people who engaged in insurrection would turn around and demand compensation was real enough that a rule prohibiting it&nbsp;<em>did<\/em>&nbsp;need to be written down. In fact, it is one entire sentence in an amendment that is only nine sentences overall.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In flagrant violation of the 14th Amendment, Donald Trump has concocted a $1.8 billion, taxpayer-funded slush fund for MAGA loyalists \u2014 quite possibly including just about everyone convicted of crimes on and leading up to the attempted&nbsp;<em>coup d\u2019etat<\/em>&nbsp;carried out in Trump\u2019s name on January 6, 2021.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Congress can and should prevent the fund from taking any money out of the Treasury and making any payments to anybody.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In case Trump\u2019s $1.8 billion slush fund for MAGA crooks, cronies, and criminals begins disbursing payments in defiance of the law, Congress should pass emergency legislation imposing a 100% tax on any and all payments anyone receives from it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations insurrectionist, here\u2019s a check for $1,000,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And here\u2019s your bill from the IRS for $1,000,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/act.citizen.org\/page\/98576\/petition\/1\">Tell Congress:<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/act.citizen.org\/page\/98576\/petition\/1\"><em>The 14th Amendment could not be clearer: Paying people who engage in insurrection against the United States would be patently unconstitutional. Pass the legislation \u2014 introduced by Representatives John B.
