Scott Wiener in the race to succeed U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, a Chakrabarti spokesperson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chakrabarti \u2014 who finished behind Chan in the June 2 primary election despite having loaned or contributed nearly $10 million of his own money to his campaign \u2014 changed the name of his election campaign committee to the SF Solidarity PAC, an independent-expenditure committee, according to federal filings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former candidate had made offers to about 220 campaign employees who could work on Chan\u2019s behalf as part of the independent effort, said spokesperson Nate Albee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat it comes down to for Saikat is about changing the direction of the Democratic Party,\u201d Albee said. \u201cAs it currently stands, the party has been co-opted by corporations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chan has committed to not taking money from corporate political-action committees, among other entities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chan campaign spokesperson Julie Edwards provided a statement in which Chan said she welcomed Chakrabarti\u2019s endorsement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTogether, we can stand up to corporate power and bring the voices of working families to Washington,\u201d said Chan, who was first elected supervisor in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With almost all of the ballots from the election counted Monday, Wiener \u2014 a former San Francisco supervisor and a state legislator of nearly 10 years \u2014 won first place, with 95,720 votes, or 40.73%. Pelosi\u2019s 11th Congressional District covers all but a southern chunk of The City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chan \u2014 who got Pelosi\u2019s coveted endorsement on May 18, late in the primary race \u2014 came in second place with 69,823 votes, or 29.71%. Chakrabarti came in third with 41,990 votes, or 17.87%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The results showed Wiener was dominant in most of The City, but Chan was particularly strong in the heavily Asian American&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfexaminer.com\/news\/politics\/congressional-seat-would-be-historic-for-chinese-americans\/article_8c923c35-d34d-46b7-b366-a46677cdf3c6.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Richmond and Sunset districts<\/a>, according to data on the website&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/electionmapsf.com\/2026-06-02\/d11-representative\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Election Map<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Chakrabarti leveled far more broadsides against Wiener ahead of the primary election, Wiener campaign spokesperson Joe Arellano provided a statement Monday pointing out that Chakrabarti had criticized Chan on the stump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ex \/\/ Top Stories<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfexaminer.com\/news\/technology\/spacexs-explosive-ipo-good-news-for-openai-anthropic\/article_4d08bb99-00fc-4254-9cfd-b1c250ab993c.html#tncms-source=top-stories-article\">SpaceX\u2019s gonzo IPO could be good news for OpenAI, Anthropic<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The successful Wall Street debut of Elon Musk\u2019s space company could offer a path for the San Francisco-based AI giants to follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfexaminer.com\/news\/politics\/supervisor-candidates-envision-future-for-beloved-district-8\/article_5d984317-d738-4d26-8c2a-82c4abadf145.html#tncms-source=top-stories-article\">The race to be the new District 8 supervisor draws passionate candidates<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Candidates include the owner of a cafe and civic events space, a longtime Nancy Pelosi aide, and a patent attorney who doubles as a drag performer&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfexaminer.com\/news\/politics\/gop-controller-candidate-morgan-emphasizes-competence\/article_767130f0-6810-422e-b884-79539f2efe93.html#tncms-source=top-stories-article\">State-controller candidate Morgan sees competence as winning issue<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Although he\u2019s trying to become the first Republican to win the office in more than 50 years, he\u2019s touting his expertise over party ties<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNow he\u2019s endorsing her?\u201d Arellano said. \u201cThis is the cynical politics that voters hate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cConnie Chan has built a career on blocking housing and affordability for young people \u2014 the same voters Saikat claimed to speak for,\u201d Arellano said. \u201cWith this move, it\u2019s clear that Saikat never cared about what\u2019s best for San Francisco. He was only in the race to stroke his massive ego.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both Chan and Wiener have been highlighting endorsements, with Wiener recently issuing a press release touting the fact that six of The City\u2019s 11 supervisors, among others, have backed him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Charkrabarti is a progressive activist who made a fortune as an early software engineer at the payments company Stripe. He loaned or contributed at least $9.9 million of the $10.3 million his campaign raised in the leadup to the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He paid some canvassers as much as $45 per hour, and his campaign said it built \u201cone of the largest field operations in recent San Francisco history,\u201d knocking on nearly a half-million doors as part of \u201ca grassroots movement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chan bested Chakrabarti in the primary despite&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfexaminer.com\/news\/politics\/connie-chan-nancy-pelosi-congress\/article_4ec90c9d-2389-4403-a3fe-c278f336acd6.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declaring her candidacy relatively late<\/a>, on Nov. 20, and had raised about $700,000 by the time of the election. Wiener raised about $4 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chan\u2019s campaign posted a video&nbsp;Sunday evening on social media featuring Chakrabarti bequeathing his endorsement while the two sat at a table at Joe\u2019s Ice Cream in the Richmond district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A co-founder of economic-policy think tank New Consensus, Chakrabarti said he and Chan agreed on \u201cthe most important issue right now, which is that if we actually want to create a society that works for working people, we have to break the stranglehold of corporate money in Washington.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chan responded, \u201cNot only we have to break that stronghold, the corporate stronghold, but we also need to make sure we have progressive taxation, that billionaires and their corporations pay their fair share.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chakrabarti praised Chan for supporting \u201ca wealth tax on the ultra rich, and you\u2019ve been really clear that you\u2019re going to stop sending endless bombs abroad, spending billions on wars and on genocides, and instead invest that back home here in housing, health care, and education.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe look forward to working together to make sure we stop [President] Donald Trump\u2019s $1.5 trillion on war and making sure that money we bring that back and to invest in health care and public education,\u201d Chan said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a potential boon to San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan\u2019s congressional campaign, centimillionaire Saikat Chakrabarti has endorsed her candidacy and is converting his campaign committee to support her against state Sen.
