An Industry Watchdog Has Made a List<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/casar-demands-openai-hearing\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/media-library\/congressional-progressive-caucus-chairman-greg-casar.jpg?id=61317979&amp;width=1200&amp;height=1200&amp;quality=70&amp;coordinates=170%2C0%2C171%2C0\" alt=\"Congressional Progressive Caucus chairman Greg Casar\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/casar-demands-openai-hearing\">Casar Demands Hearing After OpenAI Model Goes \u2018Full Cybercriminal\u2019 on Another Firm<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>However, details about the AI evaluation program are still lacking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CNN\u2019s Hadas Gold&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Hadas_Gold\/status\/2084268545521619227\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;on Monday that \u201cas of last Friday several industry sources told me they hadn\u2019t seen draft details\u201d about the program, although an administration official said that the framework has been completed and that \u201cdiscussions with industry about next steps are underway.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gold also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/08\/03\/tech\/white-house-meet-with-top-ai-companies-big-regulation-push\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;that major AI firms OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Meta, among others, are expected to meet with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/white-house\">White House<\/a>&nbsp;officials on Tuesday to discuss the plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rep.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/greg-casar\">Greg Casar<\/a>&nbsp;(D-Texas), chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, said that the president\u2019s voluntary approach to regulation is \u201ccompletely failing to keep us safe from the dangers of AI.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe took millions from AI billionaires,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepCasar\/status\/2084280775881470144\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>&nbsp;Casar in a Monday&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/social-media\">social media<\/a>&nbsp;post. \u201cNow in the wake of extremely dangerous AI cybersecurity problems he says he\u2019s set up \u2018voluntary\u2019 review that no one has seen. Asleep at the wheel. Too busy cashing in to protect our jobs or national security.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Companies in the AI industry are among those that have donated to Trump\u2019s effort to build a $600 million ballroom, and to the president\u2019s 2024 campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/tedlieu\/status\/2084326007020904878\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">slammed<\/a>&nbsp;the administration\u2019s approach to regulation, arguing that it is \u201cletting the AI industry run wild.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe upcoming executive order on AI is COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY,\u201d Lieu emphasized. \u201cThat means any AI company can totally ignore it. Ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both OpenAI and Anthropic last week&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/anthropic-ai-hack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revealed<\/a>&nbsp;that their AI systems recently went rogue and hacked into other companies during cybersecurity testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump\u2019s refusal to make the government review optional for AI giants comes after a previous order he\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/trump-state-ai-executive-order\" target=\"_blank\">signed<\/a>\u00a0last year, aimed at preventing state-level regulation of the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our work is licensed under Creative Commons (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0).
