US Congressman Greg Casar<\/a> on Thursday repeated his call for the Trump administration<\/a> to close the immigration<\/a> detention center in southern Texas<\/a> where it\u2019s held<\/a> thousands of children<\/a> over the past 18 months\u2014children, the progressive Democrat said, who \u201cshould be playing soccer, going to school, living their lives, not being arrested on the streets,\u201d as one of the center\u2019s newest detainees, 5-year-old Liam Tadeo<\/a>, was earlier this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Casar demanded the release of at least 112 children<\/a> who are being held at South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas, outside San Antonio, days after Tadeo was abducted along with his father by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement<\/a> (ICE) agents during a traffic stop in Austin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tadeo and his father were on their way to the child\u2019s soccer game, days before he was set to start kindergarten, when they were arrested and taken to the detention center, said Casar. The facility, which is commonly known simply as Dilley, is a for-profit center run by CoreCivic that has come under scrutiny over reports<\/a> of medical neglect and poor conditions for the dozens of families detained there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
