Troy Jackson, the Democratic US Senate<\/a> nominee for a critical seat in Maine<\/a>, denounced Vice President JD Vance<\/a> on Monday for downplaying the killing of Johan Sebasti\u00e1n Dur\u00e1n Guerrero, a 25-year-old Colombian national who was killed by a federal immigration<\/a> agent last month in Biddeford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a visit to Maine on Monday, Vance told residents who are \u201cso worried about that situation\u201d to \u201chave a little bit of perspective.\u201d Vance added that \u201cwe can absolutely investigate every shooting and we will, but we can also secure our border and ensure that that poison stops coming into our country.\u201d (The legal representative for Dur\u00e1n Guerrero\u2019s family said<\/a> no federal agencies have reached out as part of any investigation into the killing.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jackson, the former president of Maine\u2019s Senate who is running to unseat Republican US Sen. Susan Collins<\/a>, responded to the vice president in a video message posted to social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJD Vance is a dirtbag,\u201d said Jackson. \u201cThere was a young man who had a Social Security<\/a> number, he had a job, I mean, he had a life. He had a family. To come here and say, \u2018Have some perspective\u2019? You ought to have some damn perspective. I mean, you don\u2019t even know what the hell\u2019s goin\u2019 on. You got a rogue agency that\u2019s going around, pulling people out of homes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jackson then turned his attention to Collins, who recently voted for legislation that included around $70 billion in funding for US immigration agencies, including nearly $40 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement<\/a> (ICE). After an ICE agent killed Dur\u00e1n Guerrero last month, Collins refused to say<\/a> she regretted her vote to boost the agency\u2019s funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI want to know: What are you doing about it, Susan?\u201d Jackson asked. \u201cShe gave them an additional $70 billion to pull this shit off. We lost a person that JD Vance seems to not give a shit about. And that should piss us all off. So I want to know: Do you agree with JD Vance dismissing the killing of this young man? Because I tell you what, \u2018concerns\u2019 and all that does nothing for all of us, does nothing for that family, and I\u2019m sick of your \u2018concerns.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
