US President Donald Trump<\/a> railed against Medicare for All<\/a> during an Oval Office event on Tuesday, falsely claiming the proposal would be prohibitively expensive and ineffective despite new research confirming it would save lives and cost significantly less than the corporate-dominated status quo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president\u2019s remarks came during an event touting his limited, voluntary, and secretive agreements<\/a> with leading pharmaceutical companies, deals purportedly aimed at lowering drug prices<\/a>. Trump again lied by claiming that his efforts are \u201cmuch bigger\u201d than Medicare<\/a> for All, which would provide comprehensive health coverage to every person in the US for free at the point of service, eliminating premiums, copays, and deductibles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump said that Medicare for All, which has not been tried at a national level in the US, \u201cdoesn\u2019t work,\u201d falsely claiming a single-payer<\/a> system would cost \u201cthe entire budget<\/a> of the whole country\u201d and send taxes into the stratosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nancy Altman, president of the progressive advocacy group\u00a0Social Security Works<\/a>\u00a0and author of the forthcoming book,\u00a0The Road to Medicare for All: A Call to Action<\/a><\/em>, told Common Dreams on Wednesday that \u201cTrump is once again revealing that he lies about\u00a0healthcare<\/a>\u00a0or is totally ignorant of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
