Instead they advocate popular opposition to fascism as we witnessed in\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-size: 16px;\" title=\"Unite the Right rally\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Unite_the_Right_rally\">Charlottesville<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">.\u201d<\/span><sup id=\"cite_ref-Socialists.2C_Anarchists.2C_and_Communists_8-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/div>\n<div id=\"mw-content-text\" class=\"mw-content-ltr\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\n<div class=\"mw-parser-output\">\n<p>According to\u00a0<i><a title=\"The Economist\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Economist\">The Economist<\/a><\/i>, the &#8220;word\u00a0<a title=\"Antifa movements\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antifa_movements\">Antifa<\/a>\u00a0has its roots in\u00a0<a title=\"Antifaschistische Aktion\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antifaschistische_Aktion\">Anti-Fascist Action<\/a>, a name taken up by European political movements in the 1930s&#8221; Outside of Europe, anti-fascist tactics were used as a model for anti-Japanese resistance in occupied-China during World War II.<sup id=\"cite_ref-18\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-SeurthWhatIs_2-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Anti-Racist Action\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anti-Racist_Action\">Anti-Racist Action<\/a>\u00a0(ARA), which came from the\u00a0<a class=\"mw-disambig\" title=\"Punk\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Punk\">punk<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Skinheads\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Skinheads\">skinhead<\/a>\u00a0scene of the late &#8217;80s,\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-19\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-BeinartViolentLeft_5-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>is the main precursor of many if not most contemporary US antifa groups. Other antifa groups in the US have other genealogies.
