But by 1903, frustrated with the movement\u2019s\u00a0lack of progress, the Women\u2019s Social and Political Union (WSPU) was founded by Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughter. And from\u00a01905 onwards WSPU used new tactics including civil disobedience, rallies, and demonstrations.<\/p>\n This coin was part of that civil disobedience. Stamped with the suffragette slogan \u201cvotes for women\u201d, it circulated as small change and spread the message of the campaign until the law giving women the same voting rights as men was passed in 1928.<\/p>\n The women in the suffrage movement tapped into the viral circulation\u00a0of money to demand their fundamental right to vote. Now, 100 years later, we\u2019re fighting to defend the power of everyone\u2019s\u00a0vote.<\/strong><\/p>\n Big money has corrupted our elections and undermines the fundamental principal of \u201cone person, one vote.\u201d\u00a0So we\u2019re doing what the suffragettes did.
