1. Repeal the 2002 Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) Petition from Veterans For Peace

For nearly two decades, the AUMFs have effectively become a blank check for any president, at any time, to wage endless global war without oversight or meaningful national public debate. U.S. counterterrorism operations from post-9/11 wars as a whole have expanded to at least 80 countries around the world, costing an estimated $5.9 trillion. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed, injured, surveilled, and displaced, with Black, brown, and Muslim communities disproportionately impacted.
The 2002 AUMF allowed for the disastrous invasion and occupation of Iraq. On June 17, 2021, the House, led by Rep. Barbara Lee and as a result of continued grassroots pressure, passed legislation to repeal the 2002 AUMF. In the upcoming weeks, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee plans to move forward with a bipartisan bill to repeal the 2002 Iraq War authorization
Just this past week the United States conducted airstrikes not authorized by Congress on two separate sovereign nations, Iraq and Syria.

The most recent Israeli attack on Gaza has been met by mass protests around the world. In port cities from the United States and Canada to Europe and South Africa, trade union and community activists have responded to the call for boycott, divestment and sanctions by setting up blockades to prevent the docking of ships from the Israeli Zim company and the loading of arms of Israel. These actions build on a series of protests in port cities in the early 2000’s by trade union and community activists, including participation in the Ship to Gaza/ Freedom Flotilla effort in 2014. In this meeting, we will hear from trade union and community activists from the United States, Sweden and Italy who have played a central role in these and other solidarity actions for Palestine. The event will focus on the organising lessons learned with a discussion to follow.
Participants:
Dr. Rafeef Ziadah (Panel chair) is Lecturer in Politics at SOAS, as well as a spoken word artist and human rights activist and former member of the BDS national coordinating committee.
Lara Kiswani is executive director of AROC, the Arab Resource Organising Center in San Francisco, California, which has played a central role in coordinating Block the Boat actions in the United States and Canada in which community activists set up picket-lines targeting Zim ships which dockworkers from the International Longshore and Warehouse Union have refused to cross.
Erik Helgeson is a dockworker at the Port of Gothenburg who serves on both the local and national board of the Swedish Dockworkers Union (SDU). Erik was closely involved in the SDU’s boycott of Israeli cargo in 2010 and the SDU’s support of the Ship to Gaza movement in 2014.
José Nivoi and Giacomo Marchetti are dockworkers at the Port of Genoa in Italy and members of the Unione Sindacale di Base, which has helped to coordinate recent blockades of arms to Israel from the Port of Livorno, following up successful actions in 2019 to blockade shipments of arms to Saudi Arabia to be used in the war on Yemen. They will be joining the meeting via a pre-recorded video message.

Mah-hi-vist “Red Bird” Goodblanket was 18 years old when he was killed by Custer County sheriff’s deputies.
He was unarmed & inside his own home when he was shot seven times, once in the back on the head.
His parents had called 911 to help him during a mental health episode.
The local DA ruled his death as justified & the deputies received the Medal of Valor.

We invite everyone who is sickened by the US government and what it has done to people all over the planet and to people here, everyone who refuses to join in the orgy of July 4 flag waving and patriotism, to come to Revolution Books for an Anti-July 4 screening and discussion of the powerful film “SIR! NO SIR!” by David Zeiger. This film tells the true story of the powerful anti-war movement which emerged inside the US military during the war in Vietnam. It is a powerful antidote to the lies about Making America Great Again, and the lies about the war in Vietnam that make heroes of the US military which dropped napalm on children.
Sir! No Sir! 1) Brings to life the history of the GI movement through the stories of those who were part of it; 2) Reveals the explosion of defiance that the movement gave birth to with never-before-seen archival material; 3) Explores the profound impact that movement had on the military and the war itself; and 4) The film also tells the story of how and why the GI Movement has been erased from the public memory.

On this July 4th, there is nothing to celebrate about this blood-soaked country, its wars of empire, its destruction of the environment, its murderous police, and all the suffering it has caused people here and around the world.
