Neighbors Try to Save Threatened McLaren Trees

The Natural Resources Department (NRD) of SF Recreation and Parks Department (SFRPD) is planning to cut down mature trees in McLaren Park.

Of course people are upset. These photographs were sent us by a supporter of the trees. This beautiful old tree has an official sign that it’s going to be cut down – and one from the public, opposing it.

“It has a notice about the work (which was supposed to start april 8th) and a flyer to save McLaren trees, as well as  flowers that people brought to the tree, and hearts,” said the person who sent the pictures. “A lady was standing next to it talking to everybody who walked by.”

“The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way.”  – William Blake, The Letters, 1799

Here are flowers piled up around the tree, and paper hearts. People love these trees. We wish SFRPD did too.
