Online / Livestream

Defund Militarism, Invest in Communities & Racial Justice Movements

Months of daily protests against police killings and systemic racism has made the Movement for Black Lives the largest movement in U.S. history. While the summer’s protests were sparked by acts of state-sponsored brutality, they speak to a broader vision for a country where people can be safe, valued, and held.

With these protests, we are closer to that now than we’ve ever been before. The vision replaces police force to protect the interests of the few with care and community that uplifts everyone. It stops border apprehensions and deportations and welcomes immigrants with open arms. And it opens the door to address root causes of crime and migration, including our own destructive policies at home and abroad.

To truly invest in security for our communities, we must defund militarism, reclaim our resources, and invest in the public services and institutions that keep strengthen our communities and keep us safe. We trace the intersections of policing, immigration enforcement, and U.S. militarism and identify entry-points to join the movements against these forces of violence.

International Online discussion (90 min. webinar)

Voices For Creative Nonviolence is co-hosting a 90-minute webinar on ending the naval blockade and aerial bombardment of drought-ravaged Yemen, devastatingly conducted for the past six years by a coalition of U.S. proxy nations led by Saudi Arabia.

October 8, marks the 4-year anniversary of a Saudi-led coalition airstrike on a funeral ceremony in Sana’a, Yemen, killing at least 100 people and wounding more than 500. Recently the bombing and blockade of Yemen — with western participation — has only gotten worse. As we all deal with the pandemic, which has exacerbated the suffering of people in Yemen, now is the time to connect and recommit ourselves to stopping participation in this disastrous war.

Friday, October 9

6. Friday, 11:00am – 12Noon (PT); 2:00pm – 3:00pm (ET), No Confirmation Before Inauguration: #WeDissent Digital Rally

Livestream here: https://www.facebook.com/peoplefor/

In the middle of a global pandemic and as the 2020 election has already begun, Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell are trying to ram through the nomination of anti-health care, anti-reproductive rights, anti-voting rights judge Amy Coney Barrett for a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court. If confirmed, we know that Barrett would end protections for people with preexisting conditions; overturn Roe v. Wade; and rubber-stamp Donald Trump’s attempts to hijack the 2020 election.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham has scheduled hearings to start on Barrett’s nomination on Monday, October 12th. Voting has already started in the 2020 election, and the American people have made themselves clear: they want the next president to fill this nomination *after* inauguration. But Senate Republicans are rushing to confirm Barrett before then.

Their reasons are clear: just days after the election, the Supreme Court is set to hear a case that could decide the future of protections for people with preexisting conditions and our access to health care. We’ve already seen Trump calling for Barrett’s swift confirmation, so that he has three justices in his pocket if he decides to challenge the results of the election.

On Friday, we’ll go live here in this event with activists, advocates, and senators to talk about why this nomination must not move forward. Post your message for senators in the comments, and we’ll read them live on air during the rally.

Hosts: PFAW & Partners

7. Friday, 12Noon – 1:00pm, Stop the Racist Attacks On City Workers & Prosecute & Jail the Crooks

CCSF Department of Human Resoruces DHR & MTA

1 South Van Ness / Market St
SF

Full Compensation & Justice For CCSF Black & Other Workers Facing Racist Bullying, Retaliation and Terminations
DHR Director Micki Callahan & Other Corrupt Managers Need To Be Criminally Prosecuted NOW

The systemic racism and corruption within the Department of Human Resources DHR continues with the exposure that managers were forging documents, destroying EEO complaints and promising workers to settle their cases if they did not continue court actions.

The director Micki Callahan and her staff have been directly involved in covering up racist discrimination, bullying and illegal terminations.

These are criminal state and Federal violations of the law yet these officials are still on the payroll and have not been prosecuted.

The covid pandemic is also exacerbating the racism facing frontline workers, the corruption and union busting by city bosses who are out of control.

Many city workers on the front lines have been unable to get proper PPE and health and safety education and the city continues to contract out hundreds of millions of dollars to consultants and cronies of the Mayor and her appointees.

https://www.facebook.com/SFSisters/

Join Sisters from all over the world coming together to celebrate Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

After many conversations with local rabbi and other Jewish community members, the Sisters have decided that we will Saint Justice Ginsburg on October 2, 2020, 7pm. There was a lot of deliberation about whether Sainting her was appropriate or not, and we feel it is. It’s our highest honor and how we as an Order canonize our (s)heros.

The Sisters are not a religious organization, and our organization is made up of people representing many religions, spiritual practices, and faiths. We do recognize and respect that RBG was proudly Jewish, and we do not feel by Sainting her that we are in any way disrespecting her faith.

We love, cherish and honor Justice Ginsburg for her countless contributions. We affectionately will Saint her as “Saint Ruth Bader Ginsburg: Mensch of Magistrates, Mamele of Justice, and Tzadik Notorious RBG of the Divine Striking Dissent.”

11. Saturday, 1:00pm, United Front Against Displacement

Oakland City Hall
Oscar Grant Plaza
1 Frank Ogawa Plz
Oakland

The United Front Against Displacement is calling for a protest against the city of Oakland’s encampment management policy.

The policy creates no new housing opportunities for homeless Oaklanders and only further propagates their criminalization and displacement. The city has done next to nothing to address the various sanitation issues that people have experienced long before the start of the pandemic. This policy only seeks to exasperate the dire conditions homeless people are experiencing on a daily basis.

We Demand
*An end to current encampment sweeps, deep cleanings, and closures without providing free longterm housing.
*Cancel all back rent and civil debt.
*An end to criminalization and police brutality.
*Adequate sanitation services for all.
