6. Saturday, 12Noon 2:00pm, Cancel the Rents! Oakland Rally & Car/Bike Caravan

Meet at:

San Leandro BART

Join the caravan and ride with us to demand:

Cancel the Rents and Mortgages!
No evictions!
No foreclosures!
House the homeless in vacant housing

Neither the $600 or $1400 stimulus check is enough. One-third of people are struggling to pay their bills and are unable to catch up with rent. The eviction moratoriums nationally and locally have stopped millions of evictions but rent debt is still piling up. The looming eviction crisis will hit oppressed communities, already unevenly affected by the pandemic, the hardest.

Big landlords are abusing loopholes and filing eviction lawsuits against families regardless of the moratorium. While the Oakland moratorium currently extends to March 31st, the official rent and mortgage moratorium for the rest of the United States expires on January 31st.

Despite all their claims to the contrary the government can immediately cancel rents and mortgages, house the homeless and stop evictions. Yet they choose to bail out the corporations and the banks. The money is there to give the people what they need to survive this pandemic

Nikki P – ANAKBAYAN
Autumn Lake, Minnesota Anti-War Committee, UNAC Administrative Committee
Ted Kelly, International Action Center

The U.S and its allies have been itching for a war with Iran for years, resorting to illegal sanctions and assassinations, and attempting to stoke civil discord within Iran. The US has also surrounded Iran with dozens of active, armed military bases.

This bipartisan war of words and deeds against the people and government of Iran has nearly reached a tipping point, with the US attacking top generals, scientists, and military bases in just the last year alone.

The American people have time and time again said NO to U.S. threats of war against Iran. Now more than ever, it is vital that we hold the new Biden administration accountable

8. Sunday, 10:30am – 12:30pm, Master of Space: Corporate plans for the militarization & privatization of space

Zoom meeting – Log in:  ICSSMARX.ORG

  (I couldn’t log into this)

DESCRIPTION:
Bruce Gagnon will reveal the deadly connections between the corporate drive to ‘control and dominate’ space as spelled out in the US Space Command’s 1997 planning document called Vision for 2020.  https://thecommunity.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Vision2020.pdf

The gold rush is now underway as space technologies have matured to the point where mining the sky for precious resources becomes possible. Corporate forces intend to use the newly formed ‘Space force’ to guard the front gate on and off Earth to ensure that only ‘authorized’ companies and nations would be allowed to access space.

This vision was first spelled out before Congress in the early 1950’s when former Nazi Maj. Gen. Walter Dornberger shared his vision of orbiting battle stations in space to control the pathway on and off our planet

BIO: Bruce Gagnon is the Coordinator (and Co-Founder) of the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space. He is a Vietnam war-era veteran and began his organizing work with the United Farm Workers Union

9. Sunday, 11:00am, Newsom, Stop The Executions!

Middle Harbor Shoreline Park
2777 E. Harbor Rd.
Oakland

Public  · Anyone on or off Facebook

As of 1/18/21, Newsom and CDCR are responsible for murdering 175 incarcerated people since the beginning of the pandemic.

Join us in holding Newsom accountable and DEMAND MASS RELEASES NOW!

Mass incarceration in California created the ideal conditions for a predictable and preventable mass outbreak of COVID-19 in state prisons. Currently, every California State Prison is responding to a wave of active cases of COVID-19. Recent major surges occurred at Ironwood State Prison, California Men’s Colony, Central California Women’s Facility, and CTF Soledad.

California has reduced its prison population since the beginning of the pandemic, but not nearly enough. Nine prisons remain at over 120% of capacity and 7,000 people in county jails await transfers to state prisons.

We gather on Jan 31 to demand No State Execution by COVID-19! The only humane response is to decarcerate and remedy California’s legacy of mass incarceration. Governor Newsom must grant mass releases now to stop the rising death toll.

11. Monday, 12:30pm (PT)’ 3:30pm (ET), Call to Action: 100-Day Moral Monday Plan of Action w/ Poor People’s Campaign

Watch via Facebook: fb.com/anewppc or on our website: poorpeoplescampaign.org/livestream

*This event will be ASL interpreted and open captioned.*

Join the Poor People’s Campaign as we launch Moral Mondays during the first 100 days of the Biden-Harris administration to push for the passing of bold and historic legislation to relieve the suffering poor and low-wealth people in America.

Regardless of who’s in power, we need to take action in support of the agenda of the poor and low-wealth people across this country. Recent events only embolden our resolve to put an end to policies that leave out the poor and challenge at every turn the narrative that blames poverty on the poor, a narrative with bipartisan support. As we’ve said since launching this Campaign, this is not about right versus left, but about right versus wrong.

On February 1, the anniversary of the launch of the sit-in movement in Greensboro, NC in 1960, the Poor People’s Campaign will launch a new series of Moral Mondays to push Democrats, Republicans and Independents to pass bold and historic legislation to relieve the suffering of our people.

12. Wednesday, 6:00pm – 7:00pm, Talk on the Mothers of the Civil Rights Movement w/ Author Anna Malaika Tubbs

New Book: “The Three Mothers: How the Mothers of Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X,
and James Baldwin Shaped a Nation”

Much has been written about James Baldwin, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Malcolm X,
but virtually nothing has been said about the extraordinary women who raised them
to be the leaders they became.

Join us in conversation with Anna Malaika Tubbs as she celebrates Black motherhood in her new book, “The Three Mothers”. Baldwin’s mother Berdis, King’s mother Alberta, and Malcolm X’s mother Louise raised their sons with the hope of helping them to survive in a society that would deny their humanity from the very beginning. The Black mothers who raised America’s most pivotal heroes each represent a piece of history left untold and a celebration of
Black motherhood long overdue.

13. Wednesday, 7:00pm- 9:00pm, Behind the Mask: Community Forum on Racist Policing in Berkeley During COVID-19

To join the Zoom event:

Meeting ID: 894 1304 1160
Passcode: justice

Dial in: +1 253 215 8782 US
Meeting ID: 894 1304 1160
Passcode: 3604527

Content Warning: This event will discuss and show video of police violence against people of color.

While thousands of Berkeley residents were taking to the streets demanding an end to police terror, the Berkeley Police Department continued to target, harass, and violently attack people of color. Since March 2020, there have been at least five incidents in which Black individuals were held at gunpoint or shot with lethal or potentially lethal munitions.

Berkeley Copwatch invites you to see and hear for yourself whether Berkeley Police officers are really as expert at “de-escalating” incidents as they so often proclaim.

During the event, some of the people who were targeted by BPD will share their stories. Evidence will be presented regarding each of the five incidents, and we will be joined by members of the NAACP, Berkeley Community Safety Coalition, and National Lawyers Guild as we analyze these incidents.

Troubling questions arise:

– Why is there so little time between when officers arrive on scene and when they deploy force?

– Is there any accountability from the department when they use force in this way? Have any officers been disciplined?

– What has the department done to address the issues of racial profiling and racist policing?

Despite the department’s claims that they employ “progressive” policing tactics, these five incidents clearly show a pattern of BPD unnecessarily escalating interactions and using or threatening to use deadly force.
