Today, a press conference and protest was held outside of District Attorney Brooke Jenkins’ office, where 100+ community leaders, activists, and organizers gathered to demand justice for the murder of Banko Brown. As most of you know by now, the killing of Banko in April was yet another act of violence that results in the death of a Black trans person, in a horrific year of anti-Black and anti-trans violence. In response to the DA’s failure to prosecute a case against Michael Anthony (Banko’s killer), our SF Berniecrats Executive Board put together a resolution condemning DA Jenkins’ unethical conduct, demanding that Attorney General Rob Bonta and/or the US Department of Justice investigate Jenkins’ conduct, and that take over this case to deliver justice to Banko’s family and community. We condemn any publicly-elected official who values property over the lives of our Black and Brown neighbors and communities. Read our resolution below.
