PDA Sunday Progressive Town Hall, October 1, 2023: Organized Labor Rising

PDAMERICA Started streaming 77 minutes ago This historic moment is one that many of us in PDA have been looking forward to for decades. Organized labor is on the march and on the rise across American society! New industries are being organized, often by a new generation of labor activists, and in shops where the average age of the workforce is under 30. At the same time, many of the oldest, most established unions—the Teamsters, the Auto Workers!—have regained their mojo! And the public is loving it! Polls show landslide levels of support for unions and workers. All of which means one thing and one thing only: we cannot relent in our support for organized labor and the working class! So this Sunday we will be discussing how PDA can contribute to making sure this upswing can last more than a season—that a powerful, unapologetic labor movement becomes a fixture across American society, the bedrock foundation of a new American economy for the 21st century defined by fully inclusive middle-class prosperity. We’ll be joined by both Scott Houldieson, a labor union and PDA activist from Indiana who will give us an update on the ongoing auto workers’ strike, and screenwriter Howard Rodman, a longtime member of the WGA negotiating team, to share his thoughts on the importance of the writers’ victory for all workers.
