Bank of America is pouring financial fuel on the climate crisis

November 8, 2023 (ran.org)

We’ve been sounding the alarm for years: banks are pouring financial fuel on the climate crisis — and then gaslighting us all by pretending they’re not responsible. Now, our newest report is shining the light directly on Bank of America to expose just how dirty their financing really is.Let me give you an example: Bank of America has a public policy restricting the financing of Arctic oil drilling — but that doesn’t stop them from financing the companies behind those projects… that’s a pretty big loophole if you ask me.In fact, Bank of America gave ConocoPhillips — the company responsible for the Willow Project, a new oil drilling project in Alaska — over $100 million last year alone. So while they say they don’t support Arctic drilling, their money says otherwise
Tell Bank of America you see right through their tricks!

Bank of America’s very own human rights statement notes “the significant risks that climate change poses … to the human rights of individuals and communities affected by climate change.” But Bank of America keeps financing fossil expansion! Including the largest build-out of our lifetimes: methane gas expansion in the Gulf South. There are a staggering 25+ new methane gas (what the industry greenwashes as liquefied “natural” gas or LNG) export terminals slated along the Gulf Coast. Gulf communities are already overburdened by both the toxic impacts of the petrochemical industry and climate disasters like increasing hurricanes and floods. Every new fossil fuel project — especially in places like “Cancer Alley” — is a blatant disregard for human life.Last year alone, Bank of America provided $959 MILLION to the top 30 methane-expanding companies. Will you spread the word that Bank of America is financing destruction, Michael?Help us expose Bank of America!

Unfortunately, it doesn’t end there: Bank of America is connected to fossil projects not only across the U.S., but across the entire planet — threatening communities, violating Indigenous sovereignty, supporting environmental racism, and financing climate chaos that threatens us all.Our report puts Bank of America on blast — but we need your help to really focus the spotlight on them. Spread the word: Bank of America is complicit. In solidarity,Photo of Ernesto Archila
