This year, the conference is being held in San Francisco. Let’s turn up and show Microsoft that there will be no business as usual while Microsoft and its execs have blood on their hands!

4. Tuesday, 4:00pm – 5:00pm (PT); 7:00pm – 8:00pm (ET), Webinar: Media Bias and the Gaza Genocide

Online
https://masspeace.us/media-bias-gaza

Since October 2023, historian Assal Rad and journalist Sana Saeed have closely tracked media coverage of the genocide in Gaza, highlighting how much of it aligns with the Israeli narrative and distorts key facts — contributing to widespread misinformation and disinformation.

Our speakers will present examples of headlines that obscure the facts, and we will have some time to practice our media literacy skills!

Dr. Assal Rad is a historian of the modern Middle East. She works on research and writing related to U.S. foreign policy issues, the Middle East, contemporary Iran, and Israel/Palestine. Her writing can be seen in Newsweek, The National Interest, The Independent, Foreign Policy and more, and she has appeared as a commentator on BBC World, Al Jazeera, CNN, and NPR. Assal completed a PhD in History from the University of California, Irvine in 2018 and is the author of The State of Resistance: Politics, Culture, and Identity in Modern Iran (Cambridge University Press, 2022).

Sana Saeed is an award-winning journalist and media critic known for her sharp analysis of how media shapes public perception. She previously hosted the shows Backspace and The Occupation Style Guide at AJ+ that illuminated the ways mainstream news frames narratives around war, colonialism, and resistance. Since October 2023, she has been at the forefront of critically exposing how U.S. media propaganda is used to justify war crimes and shape public discourse around the genocide in Gaza.

7. Thursday, 9:00am – 10:00am (PT); 12Noon – 1:00pm(ET), Webinar: World Children’s Day: The Torture of Palestinian Children

Register at:
https://www.dci-palestine.org/world_childrens_day_torture_palestinian_children_20251120

World Children’s Day is marked annually as the anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most widely signed treaty in history in which countries agree to uphold and protect children’s rights. But Israel, despite having ratified the CRC, regularly and systematically subjects Palestinian children to brutal torture. Israeli forces have seriously intensified their torture of Palestinian child detainees since October 7, and both physical and psychological acts of torture are leaving lifelong scars on Palestinian children.

This webinar will share the latest updates on Palestinian children in Israeli military detention, new interviews with Palestinian boys abducted from Gaza and released during the prisoner exchange, and details on Defense for Children International – Palestine’s submission to the UN Committee Against Torture outlining Israel’s violations of the Convention Against Torture. Attendees will hear testimony from Palestinian children subjected to brutal acts of torture and humiliation. This webinar will also include actions to take in support of Palestinian child detainees from the United States, United Kingdom, and other places around the world.

8. Thursday, 5:00pm, Transgender Day of Remembrance, San Francisco

5:00 pm Speakers – SF City Hall Steps
6:00 pm March from City Hall to LGBT Center
7:00 pm Program SF LGBT Center, 1800 Market St, San Francisco

We are dedicated to making this event possible for all of our community with ASL interpretation, Spanish translation, in a venue that is wheelchair accessible.

What is TDoR?

The number of reported cases of trans-phobic based hate crimes has more than doubled since 1999 when the first TDoR was held in San Francisco on a cold and rainy night. TDoR occurs globally on the 20th of November. This day also acts to bring visibility and momentum to a call to action to end the hatred and ignorance that the transgender community faces daily.

History

The Transgender Day of Remembrance was founded in 1999 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, a trans woman who is a graphic designer, columnist, and activist, to memorialize the murder of Rita Hester in Allston, Massachusetts. Since its inception, TDoR has been held annually on the 20th of November, and quickly evolved from a local gathering started by Smith into an international day of action. By 2013, TDoR was observed in over 200 cities throughout more than 20 countries.
