CODEPINK to Rally Outside Rep. Pelosi’s Home For an Immediate Ceasefire and an End to U.S. Support for Netanyahu’s Actions in Gaza
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Bay Area chapter of CODEPINK will hold a rally on Sunday morning at the residence of Representative Nancy Pelosi. The demonstration aims to urge both Pelosi and President Biden to support an immediate permanent ceasefire, to cease financial backing for Prime Minister Netanyahu’s military campaign in Gaza, and put an end to settler violence and Israeli military incursions in the West Bank.
As the call for a ceasefire gains momentum, with 48 members of Congress already expressing their support, it is crucial for Representative Pelosi, a California leader and former Speaker of the House, to heed the voices of her constituents and stand in solidarity with her colleagues advocating for peace.
Event Details:
Date: Sunday, December 3, 2023
Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Location: 2640 Broadway, San Francisco (Pacific Heights)
The rally will feature compelling visuals, including a symbolic die-in, picket line, banners, singing, children’s activities. Pelosi’s San Francisco constituents will speak, a rare opportunity given Pelosi’s inaccessibility (Pelosi’s office is closed to the public; no one answers the phone).
Event organizer Cynthia Papermaster said they are asking Representative Pelosi to “stand with the majority of Americans and publicly call for a full and lasting ceasefire. Polls show that 66% of Americans (and 80% of Democrats!) support a ceasefire in Gaza. And it’s hard to ignore the estimated 50,000 people who marched in San Francisco calling for an immediate ceasefire on November 4th.”
“U.S. financing of the Netanyahu right-wing government’s destruction of Gaza means that the blood of thousands of innocent children is on our hands. The U.S. is the biggest funder of Israel’s military, providing it with $3.8 billion every year. Our government must not be complicit in genocide and other war crimes. Congress enabling huge profits for the U.S. war industry is wrong. There is no military solution to this conflict. The U.S. should support diplomacy, not revenge,” she continued.
Papermaster also wants the public and members of the press to understand that, “opposition to the Netanyahu regime’s Gaza siege is not anti-semitism or support for Hamas.” On the contrary, true Jewish values do not condone killing innocent civilians.
