Critics blasted Trump as “sadistic” for justifying attack on unarmed Iranian ship, which killed over 100 sailors, because it was “more fun” for US forces than capturing it.

President Donald Trump said the US Navy chose to sink an Iranian frigate, killing more than 100 sailors last week, because it was “more fun” than capturing the vessel, even though the ship posed no threat.

Though death tolls vary, Iran’s state media organization, the Islamic Republic News Organization, reported on Sunday that 104 crew members were killed in the attack and that 32 others were injured when a US submarine torpedoed the Iranian warship IRIS Dena in the Indian Ocean on March 4 as it departed from the Milan Peace 2026 naval drills hosted in India.

‘People Are Loving What’s Happening,’ Trump Claims While Massacring Iranian Children as US Oil Prices and Unemployment Spike

The Dena was more than 2,000 miles away from the Persian Gulf when it was attacked, far from the hostilities unleashed last weekend when the US and Israel launched a war against Iran. Contradicting US claims, Iranian and Indian officials have said it was not armed.

In what political commentator Adam Schwarz described as “the most blasé admission of a war crime by a US president in history,” Trump on Monday casually recounted the US Navy’s decision to attack the ship before a gathering of Republicans at a Congressional Institute event, a GOP-aligned nonprofit retreat organizer.

He suggested that the Navy blew the boat up not to neutralize a threat, but purely for its own sake.

After making the exaggerated boast that Iran’s navy is “gone” following aggressive US bombing, Trump said at first he “got a little upset” with the military brass who ordered the sinking of the Dena, which he said they described as a “top-of-the-line” vessel.

Trump said he asked: “Why don’t we just capture the ship? We could have used it. Why did we sink them?”

He said that an unspecified official told him, “It’s more fun to sink them.”

As the crowd laughed, Trump went on, chuckling himself: “They like sinking them better. They say it’s safer to sink them. I guess it’s probably true.”

Iran’s deputy foreign minister, Saeed Khatibzadeh, described the ship as operating in a purely “ceremonial” role and said it was “unloaded” and “unarmed” at the time of the attack last week.

Rahul Bedi, an independent defense analyst in India, told the Associated Press that while the ship may have used some limited non-offensive ammunition during naval exercises, drill protocol requires “the participating platforms to be unarmed.”

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has claimed the vessel was a “predator ship,” while the US Indo-Pacific Command has said claims that the ship was unarmed are “false.” However, it has provided no evidence that it posed a threat at the time of the attack.

The attack itself was likely legal under the rules of naval warfare, even if the ship was unarmed, though its ethical and tactical justification has been called into question.

“A military ship might be a lawful target,” Phyllis Bennis, the co-director of the Institute for Policy Studies’ New Internationalism Project told Common Dreams. “But firing on any ship—any people, anywhere—for ‘fun’ represents the kind of immoral depravity that this White House is infamous for.”

Bennis added that “failing to do everything possible to rescue those aboard is certainly a war crime,” as the Second Geneva Convention requires militaries to take all possible measures to search for and collect the shipwrecked, wounded, and sick.

The Dena’s 32 survivors, as well as dozens of dead bodies, had to be pulled from the water by a Sri Lankan joint rescue operation following a distress call. The survivors were quickly rushed to a local hospital in Galle City.

Hegseth has previously come under fire for reportedly ordering a second strike on shipwrecked sailors who survived the bombing of an alleged drug trafficking boat in the Caribbean.

Many have described that attack on September 2 as an exceptionally blatant war crime in a broadly illegal campaign that has extrajudicially killed at least 156 people.

In carrying out its war against Iran, Hegseth has emphasized that the US would not abide by what he called “stupid rules of engagement.”

Thousands of civilian targets, including schools, hospitals, and residential areas, have reportedly been attacked by US and Israeli strikes, according to the Iranian Red Crescent.

As of Monday, Iranian Deputy Health Minister Ali Jafarian said at least 1,255 people have been killed, including 200 children and 11 healthcare workers.

Though it may have still technically been legal, journalist Mark Ames, the co-host of the geopolitics podcast Radio War Nerdargued that attacking a ship that posed no threat shows that Trump is “cowardly scum” who “gets his kicks killing those who can’t fight back.”

“The ship was unarmed. That’s why Trump and Hegseth chose to murder them,” Ames wrote on social media. “Tormenting those who can’t fight back is its own sadistic pleasure.”

Bennis added that even if attacking the ship itself was lawful in a vacuum, it took place before a backdrop of brazen “illegality.”

“This entire shocking episode represents a clear US violation of what the Nuremberg trials identified as the ‘supreme international crime’: the crime of aggression,” she said. “The US had no legal right to go to war against Iran. The [United Nations] Security Council had not authorized the use of force, and there was no ‘armed attack’ from Iran against the US that required immediate self-defense.

“Without either of those, the UN Charter is very clear that no country may attack another country,” she continued. “To do so, as the Nuremberg judges found, constitutes the crime of aggression—the ultimate crime.”

Escape From Capitalism: Economics is Political, and Other Liberating Truths

Clara E. Mattei

‘Capitalism seems invincible and inevitable. It is neither. Clara Mattei illustrates brilliantly its fragility and restores hope that everything could be different’ Yanis Varoufakis

Economics is sold as pure and scientific, neutral, exact. This urgent book exposes its true to convince us there’s no alternative to capitalism.

We live in a world dominated by the dogma that austerity is necessary, unemployment natural, endless wars inevitable and central banks all-powerful. It doesn’t have to be this way.

In her bold, ground-breaking manifesto, economist Clara E. Mattei tears the mask off our economic system. She unpacks key concepts like growth, inflation, unemployment and balanced budgets to show how they’re weaponized to enforce market dependence, not freedom, stripping us of the power to shape the democratic decisions that govern our daily lives. Enduring problems such as poverty and inequality are not accidents or bugs in the economy, but core features – justified with pseudoscientific models to support a system that unfairly rewards people with the most resources.

Why should we accept this? Capitalism, Mattei argues, isn’t inevitable, scientific, or natural – it’s a relatively young system that can be replaced. Inspired by a lineage of political resistance, Escape from Capitalism calls for us to challenge the broken economics of our times, and pave the way towards liberation.

Draft MAGA First for Trump’s war!

Go fight for their Trump!

Dean Obeidallah Mar 9, 2026

Donald Trump’s unpopular and illegal war against Iran is coming fact to face with reality. A quick victory is not happening—meaning now comes the much more painful period of this war on various fronts from a potential military draft to higher inflation. Well, given Trump’s base are the only ones supporting this war, then they should be required to bear the costs of Trump’s incompetence!

This is not the Iraq war where 73% of Americans supported that conflict shortly before it began. In the run up to Trump’s war on a whim against Iran, we saw paltry support in the low to mid 20’s. Now a week into the war, we are seeing support for the war increase as MAGA rallies around Trump.

A new NPR-Marist poll finds 56% of Americans oppose the war while 44% support it. But when you break those numbers down you see who is really supporting this war. It’s the Republicans who love it with 84% on board. In contrast, a whopping 86% of Democrats and 61% of Independents oppose the war.

This was also backed up by a recent CNN poll that found only 32% of independents and 18% of Democrats support Trump’s war on Iran. But nearly 80% of Republicans can’t get enough of blowing up Iran.

Given Trump is leader of the GOP and it’s Republicans who want this war, they should bear the costs! For starters, Trump implementing a draft is a very real possibility. Per NBC News, Trump has privately expressed “serious interest” in deploying U.S. troops on the ground inside of Iran. That explains why on Sunday morning, Trump’s press secretary refused to rule out the possibility of a draft while on Fox Business—instead saying Trump wants to “wisely keeps his options on table.”

Well, if there is a draft, it should be Draft MAGA first. They elected Trump. They support his war. Now go fight and die for him. Certainly the head of the draft list should be the “bro podcasters” and influencers who played an oversize role in cheering for Trump during the 2024 election.

In fact, if these MAGA loving “warriors” had any decency, they would be rushing to sign up for the military right now. But there’s no indication they are. It’s not surprising given so many in MAGA can’t even win a war against cholesterol—let alone soldiers!

Same goes for the economic costs of Trump’s war: Tax MAGA first! For starters, gas prices are already jumping. Per AAA, last month gas prices on average were $2.80 a gallon. Now it’s $3.50—and climbing by the day. And Diesel prices have risen at a faster clip—now up nearly 25% rising from $3.60 to $4.60 a gallon.

These prices are poised to jump with the price of oil breaking $100 today for the first time in four years. We could easily see gas prices at over $4.00 per gallon soon at this rate.

In response to this pain, Trump wrote Sunday that short term spike in gas prices at the pump “is a very small price to pay for U.S.A and World, Safety and Peace.” He then added in all caps, “ONLY FOOLS WOULD THINK DIFFERENTLY!”

Well, call me a fool along with the 80% of Democrats and nearly two thirds of independents who oppose this war. We should receive subsidized gas, a gas card or at least a tax deduction for higher gas costs. MAGA wanted Trump and this war—now pay for it!

And it’s far from just higher gas prices at the pump. Higher oil prices means soon that will drive up inflation across the board. For starters, groceries will climb in price. Obviously, the cost to transport goods rises as gas prices jump for the trucks, trains and planes. In addition, oil is often used to power farm and factory equipment, and it’s a key ingredient in many fertilizers and pesticides. As those costs go higher because of Trump’s war, it will cause more pain for consumers.

Heating costs have also been jumping since that is tied to crude oil. Already heating oil prices are up $0.160 per gallon from a week ago and $0.406 since last year.

And guess what else goes up in price because of Trump and MAGA’s war?! All petroleum-based products—which run the gambit including toys, kitchen utensils, plastic food storage containers, storage bins, and household décor.

This war didn’t have to happen. Trump choose to start a war despite no imminent threat to the US –as even Trump’s own regime have told members of Congress. Why he did it we can debate all day—was it for his own ego? Was if for Netanyahu? Is there a financial benefit for Trump? Probably all of those reasons and more.

But this is Trump’s very unpopular war backed only by MAGA. That means MAGA should bear the cost of this war. MAGA should be drafted first. MAGA should have to pay a war tax. Anything else means we are paying the price for Trump’s illegal war that serves Trump’s interests alone—not the interests of the United States of America!!

Bombshell investigation verifies key details in 13-year-old Trump accuser’s story

Alexander Willis

March 9, 2026 (RawStory.com)

Donald Trump

Key details in the account of a woman who’s accused President Donald Trump of sexually assaulting her when she was a minor were verified Sunday in an explosive investigation conducted by The Post and Courier.

The woman first came forward to the FBI following the 2019 arrest of Jeffrey Epstein, and was interviewed by the agency four separate times. A Justice Department source told the Miami Herald that the woman was found credible by the agency, the outlet reported.

In her interviews with the FBI, the woman accused Epstein and at least two other associates, including Trump, of sexual assault when she was 13. She accused Trump of sexually assaulting her, pulling her hair and punching her in the head sometime in the mid-1980s.

While details of her specific allegations against Trump were not further verified by The Post and Courier, other details she provided the FBI were, giving further credence to her account.

Details verified by The Post and Courier include the fact that her mother had rented a home to Epstein in South Carolina. The outlet also verified details of another associate of Epstein’s that she accused of sexually assaulting her, an Ohio businessman that she said was “affiliated with a Cincinnati-based college,” and whom the outlet confirmed was a member of a for-profit school.

The woman also accused Epstein of possessing nude photographs of her as a minor and extorting her mother for money to keep them secret, which she said led her mother to begin stealing money. The Post and Courier confirmed that the mother had been charged with stealing $22,000 from the real estate firm she worked for.

The woman’s identity was verified by The Post and Courier by cross referencing details of her account with various public records and old news clippings, though the outlet declined to name her, and both she and her attorney declined to comment on the report.

Due to the sheer volume of Epstein-related materials released by the DOJ, many of the documents contain unverified, uncorroborated allegations that do not constitute evidence, and do not establish wrongdoing. Trump is not facing any criminal charges or investigations related to the allegation.

Pípsell: The Last Stand (DOCUMENTARY)

The Real News Network 4 days ago

The costly completion of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project (TMX)—Canada’s only pipeline system transporting crude oil from Alberta to the West Coast—has been a massive boon for Canada’s oil industry while posing existential threats to the environment and to First Nations. One of the last portions of the pipeline expansion was completed on the sacred Secwépemc site called Pípsell, near Kamloops, British Columbia, in violation of prior agreements with, and the treaty rights of, members of the Secwépemc Nation. In Pípsell: The Last Stand, award-winning Cree/Iroquois/French journalist Brandi Morin and documentary filmmaker Geordie Day expose in stunning cinematic detail the human and environmental costs of Canada’s TMX pipeline—and they follow the intense, dangerous, brave struggle of Indigenous land defenders and their allies to halt the completion of the Pípsell expansion.

Pípsell: The Last Stand was produced in partnership with The Real News Network and Ricochet Media. The documentary made its global debut at the 2025 Calgary Justice Film Festival. Your weekly to-dos

  1. Tell your Members of Congress: End Trump’s illegal war with Iran. Trump’s war has already cost the lives of US servicemembers, at least 1,000 Iranian civilians, and others caught in the crossfire throughout the region. Democrats’ efforts to end it with a War Powers Resolution failed last week, but the fight is far from over. The regime will soon ask for billions more of taxpayers’ money to continue their bloodsoaked recklessness. Use the link above to email your Members of Congress, then call your senators and your representative and demand they refuse to fund Trump’s war.
  2. Join our ICE Off Campus mobilization call (Wednesday). Indivisible, Stand For Campus Freedom, and other partners will be discussing the threat ICE poses on college campuses, and how we can fight back. The call is geared toward people who are concerned but may not have a presence on campus right now — alumni, students’ loved ones, and anyone who understands the threat this poses, not just to higher education, but our First Amendment rights everywhere.
  3. Find your closest No Kings protestWhen our military is fighting a war Americans don’t want and Congress didn’t authorize, secret police are kidnapping and killing our neighbors, and the regime is working overtime to suppress the vote in the midterm elections, silence isn’t an option. No Kings III has to be big, loud, and inescapable. Use our map to find and sign up for updates about your closest protest (and if you don’t find an event within an hour of your home, consider hosting one!).

P.S. The next No Kings is less than three weeks away! And as we’re dedicating enormous amounts of time and resources to organize what’ll be our country’s biggest single-day protest ever, we’re also responding in real time to Trump’s recklessness and cruelty. Plainly put, we need your help! Please pitch in, if you can, to help make No Kings the powerful, world-historic day of protest that this moment demands.

Getting ready for No Kings

March 28, the next No Kings Day, is just around the corner! Hosts have already registered more than 2,000 events (check here to find one in your area) and we want to make sure you’re as prepared as you can be for what’s going to be the largest single-day protest in US history.

Over the next two weeks, we’ll be hosting the No Kings Kickoff (March 19) and a number of calls to discuss: organizing for March 28 and beyond; protest rights and safety practices (in both English and Spanish); and how to talk about No Kings so that folks outside of the movement will listen and engage.

You can find details on all the upcoming training calls here. (All of them are also conveniently listed in the On The Horizon section, below.).
