In SF & California
Working People Need a Democratic Trade Union Movement & A Labor Party That Fights For Justice and Human Rights

The City and County of San Francisco is spending hun- dreds of millions of dollars outsourcing public jobs to consultants, companies and privately run profits. At the same time, the Mayor and Department of Human Re- sources DHR has instituted a hiring freeze of permanent employees even before the pandemic.

Workers who have medical exemptions are also being terminated by the City, while the City refuses to have regular testing of all workers in Muni, DPH, and oth- er departments. We demand an end of these retaliatory firings and for the unions to demand that they be halted by workers’ action.

The pandemic has also been used to replace public workers with lower paid workers and temporary work- ers with less pay and benefits.

Private outfits like state wide Healthright 360 which is siphoning off thousands of patients is destroying public jobs. If you do public work, you should be a public worker. This should not be supported by our unions. This is union busting and an unfair labor practice. Our unions need to file unfair labor practice complaints and take direct action to stop these attacks.

The City has also failed to protect workers who have died from Covid like DPH worker Ludwig Leota who had an underlying health condition and was sent back to work by managers leading to his death. Unfortunately, the SEIU 1021 leadership has not defended their members

WE need a city charter amendment and state constitu- tional clause that prohibits the privatization and out- sourcing of public jobs by the City and State of California. The billionaires run the City/County and State, and they control the politicians who are allowing this outsourcing and privatization. These billionaires like John Fisher, the owner of GAP and the A’s is also trying to privatize the Howard Terminal for a stadium and development project with 3,000 million dollar condos. This is supported by Newsom & the Democrats in the legislature including those in SF. They are also supporting Amazon building more non-union warehouses.

*Wearing a face mask and adhering to county COVID-19 safety protocols are requirements to attend this event. Surgical-grade masks or better are recommended

Join city and county workers from unions across San Francisco on March 23 we call all on the Mayor to staff up our essential services. Together, we can hold city leaders accountable and make San Francisco work for everyone.

City workers make San Francisco work—but decades of cutbacks have left crucial public services dangerously understaffed. Across our city—from our hospitals to our libraries—there are over 3,800 full-time job positions that are unfilled. City and county workers are forced to do more with less, and our essential services suffer. In one of the wealthiest cities on the planet, it doesn’t have to be this way.

4. Thursday, 5:00pm, Tell the BART Board: Bring Back Lateefah Simon!

Anyone on/off facebook:  (1) Tell the BART Board: Bring Back Lateefah Simon! | Facebook

Join us this Thursday 3/24 at 5pm to demand that the BART Board bring back Lateefah Simon!

On March 10, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) announced that it stripped the ONLY Black member of its board, Lateefah Simon, of her board seat.

Lateefah was told by BART staff that her current residence was not within District 7 lines and that she must vacate her BART Board seat immediately. Previously BART staff had assured her that her new address was within the district, which includes parts of Richmond, Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco.

First elected six years ago, Lateefah was reelected in 2020 to a second term with overwhelming voter support. Her leadership has made a world of difference for BART riders and for the people of District 7, the working people, seniors and people with disabilities who rely on BART.

Lateefah moved her family because she feared for their safety after receiving racist threats and finding urine on her front door

Join us to give public comment and tell BART Staff and BART Board President Rebecca Saltzman to bring back Lateefah Simon now!

Lateefah Simon has tirelessly worked with BART staff and her colleagues on the BART board to fight for transit justice, accessibility and equity. When you make public comment, make sure to mention some of her accomplishments:  SEE SITE for more info

6. Thursday, 6:00pm – 9:00pm, Concord meeting on AB 481 (Military Equipment)

Online:  CYBERSPACE
Zoom: https://cityofconcord.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcqf-ysrDIqEtXq_0It3nT-jQM9hnqo4JY0
Registration required. Use a fake name if you want.

The state of California Assembly Bill 481 requires police departments to have a policy that governs use of military equipment. This is a meeting required by AB 481.

The city of Concord does not have police oversight board, despite public request for such. The Concord police chief has brazenly told city council he will not accept any proposal for citizen oversight.

Under these circumstances, the Concord police are choosing what Military Equipment Use Policy they want. CPD has chosen a policy drafted by Lexipol, a corporation criticized for producing weak and permissive policies for police departments.

This proposed Military Equipment Use Policy offers limited public engagement: 1 meeting per year. Complaints about misuses of military equipment will be handled by the police department, not by an independent review board or other third-party.
