Op-Ed: What are our choices in Venezuela?

March 2, 2019 by Bob of Occupy

For those of you who have bothered to watch what I have presented on the Fate of the Venezuelan People, you may be aware that I have attempted to highlight at least two opposing views, those of the Maduro camp and those of the opposition. So often the “whole” story does not get told. Ideologies prevail and Truth is subsumed by abstract devotions to them.

The US must not under any circumstances intervene militarily in another sovereign country. Were not the consequences in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, etc. enough? Are the attentions spans of Americans so frighteningly short?

But the very real concerns of political power by a besieged president against some of his own people must be confronted. Many Venezuelans are malnourished, medicines and medical care have been cut off, the price of oil has been lowered to a point where profits are insufficient to support an economy, dissenters within Venezuela have been imprisoned and tortured, corruption and mismanagement is running rampant.

Our corporate owned media and CIA asset are presenting us once again with an emotive and shrill call for a military solution. Really?

Is it not possible, and I ask this question not naively, to find a solution that doesn’t involve another bloody and destructive use of American military, hegemonic dominance over the entire planet, and at the same time bring out into the open the repressive nature of the Maduro government in his brutal put down of those who have exercised and are exercising their democratic right of dissent against his failures in governing.

Having said this, I am not unaware of the many financial weapons that the US Government has employed to achieve THEIR agenda. Even the billions of profits from CITGO, the Venezuelan gas station franchise in the US, have been officially cut off from being sent to aid Venezuela. Surely the entire world can see the greedy corporate hand of manipulation deceitfully being bludgeoned against another country with OIL that we somehow figure belongs to us. And we need not review 20th Century American history to confirm this. Just look at our 21st Century ongoing theft in the Middle East.

Institutions like the United Nations were created for just such situations like this, but through international maneuverings and power plays it no longer can serve to act as an arbiter. Which leaves the world’s populations with desperate calls for the Pope to act as an arbiter. But the Vatican has its own absence of moral authority these days and cannot be trusted.

I’m posing a lot of questions and establishing a lot of obstacles, but mainly I’m trying to cut through the media imposed, US government deep state sanctioned Manichean Divide (the conflict for which only two solutions are narrowly presented as possibilities).

Will the planet be destroyed irrevocably before the People rise up and engage in their own self interests as responsible stewards of this small planet that can so easily be set on a path of Armageddon-like finality? For surely we can no longer continue to allow the Controllers to do us great harm with their manipulations of words like Democracy, Freedom, and American Self Interests.

Wake up, America. We need to find a solution that doesn’t mirror past patterns of never ending repeated insanities that carry within them the virulent germ of yet further, future conflicts that do not portend well for the existence of life on earth.
