“Blackwater, the private military company Prince and a partner founded in 1997, was contracted by the U.S. State Department to protect diplomatic staff (and separately, CIA personnel) on the battlefields of Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan but soon became infamous, earning the former Navy SEAL officer a dubious reputation he has yet to escape.

6. Thursday, 5:00pm, Autonomous Collective Meeting

Meet at:

Entrance to Golden Gate Park
Haight St / Stanyan (across from Whole Foods)
SF

Look for signage “Autonomous Collective”

In the early 2000s many left-libertarians joined together to find an autonomous space outside of capitalist control. The Autonomous Collective engaged in mutual aid, squatting, food programs, freeganism, and other off grid activities through mutual aid, support and organizing. I was the founder of this collective, Michael McCarron aka ‘Salim’, and have recently returned to SF and am organizing along these lines again. If there are poor people, kind people, or all sincerely interested in resisting the poverty of our system, then meet every Thursday at the traditional Food Not Bombs serving place at the entrance to Golden Gate Park

The Autonomous Collective seeks to establish social programs based on the values of anti-capitalist anti-capitalism. We are currently directly invovled in housing issues, such as squatting, with Homes Not Jails. We work with many different groups and our members are involved in Gayshame, Food Not Bombs, Homes Not Jails, Reclaim the Streets and others.

Online

Advanced registration required:

This month, we will look at the larger picture of Israel’s colonial settler enterprise and the systematic confiscation of Palestinian land throughout the West Bank including East Jerusalem. This colonial theft is a key element of the Nakba, the catastrophe: the continuing crime of ethnic cleansing that the Palestinian people have endured since the Zionist project began in Palestine over a century ago.

Our special guest speaker will be Dr. Hatem Bazian, the renowned educator, community organizer, social justice activist, and prolific author, including the book “Palestine…it is something colonial.” Dr. Bazian is co-founder and professor of Islamic law and theology at Zaytuna College, the first accredited Muslim liberal arts college in the U.S. He is also co-founder and National Chair of American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), lecturer on Near Eastern Studies and Asian American Studies at UC Berkeley, and Executive Director of the Islamophobia Studies Center and Editor of the Islamophobia Studies Journal.

Ata Manasra, Coordinator of Narjes Community Development Committee in the West Bank village of Wadi Foquin will also join us to provide an update on land confiscation in the village and current efforts to stop this annexation.  Manasra is the liaison from the village to the Friends of Wadi Foquin and is also a professional tour guide.

Join us on July 10th, at 10:00 am (PT) / 1:00pm (ET) for this highly informative macro and micro look at the Israeli settlements enterprise, the keystone of the Israeli occupation.

Voices from the Holy Land Online Film Salon: “Gaza Fights for Freedom” – 7/11/21

Voices from the Holy Land, in conjunction with the American Friends Service Committee, invites you to our fifteenth monthly Online Film Salon. Participants will discuss the award winning documentary “Gaza Fights for Freedom”. Please watch the film at your convenience and then join us for the online Q&A discussion.

Filmed during the height of the Great March of Return, this documentary features riveting, exclusive footage of the protests. A collaboration of Gaza journalists worked remotely with the American director to produce the film, as Israel had blocked her entry into Gaza. The documentary tells the story of Gaza past and present, showing rare archival footage that explains the history never acknowledged by mass media. Heard on the film are the victims of the ongoing conflict, including journalists, medics and the family of internationally-acclaimed paramedic, Razan al-Najjar. At its core, Gaza Fights For Freedom is a thorough indictment of the Israeli military for war crimes, and a stunning cinematic portrayal of Palestinian resistance.

Film director, journalist Abby Martin, and Issam Adwan, Gaza Project Manager of We Are Not Numbers, will participate in a Q&A panel discussion. Jehad Abusalim, Education and Policy Associate for the American Friends Service Committee, will moderate the Q&A discussion.

11. Sunday, 3:00pm – 4:00pm, Protest Tokyo Olympic Madness Threatening To Expand The Global Covid Pandemic

In-person

San Francisco Japanese Consulate
275 Battery St. (nr. California)
SF

Masks / physical distancing

No Nukes Action asks you to join us and speak out to demand the cancellation of the Olympics, the halt to re-opening Japan’s nuclear plants and defense of the Fukushima people. We oppose as well the militarization of Asia supported by the US and Biden along with Congressional leader Nancy Pelosi. Thiis includes the building of the new Haneko base in Okinawa.

The Japanese government supported by the International Organizing Commiittee IOC, the Biden administration and the G7 is moving ahead with the holding of the Tokyo Olympics in the middle of a world pandemic which is now engulfiing Japan.

The Delta virus has hit the country and less than 5% of the people are even vaccinated. This means that thousands could die and the hospitals staff are already at the breaking point.

The government controlled corporate media is also suppressing the growing protests against the Olympics and the massive corruption of the government.

At the same time over 80% of the people oppose having the Olympics in the midst of a full scale pandemics but the profits for NBC and the media companies come first for the IOC and the Japanese government.

The people of the world need to demand that the Olympics be cancelled and these politicians, governments and the IOC be held accountable

The Suga Japanese government is also planning to restart more nuclear plants and also release over a million tons of radioactive water from Fukushima where the burned nuclear reactor plants continue to leak radioactive material more than ten years after the melt-downs.

Nuclear clean-up workers including workers from overseas and other workers continue to get contaminated with no proper health and safety education and tens of thousands of bags of radioactive waste continue to remain scattered throughout the prefecture with no place to go. The government is also seeking to spread the contaminated waste throughout Japan in road construction and other projects.

Saturday, July 31

Saturday, 11:00am – 4:00pm, Protest & Resistance Virtual Tule Lake Pilgrimage 2021

Online registration: Protest & Resistance Virtual Tule Lake Pilgrimage 2021 Tickets, Sat, Jul 31, 2021 at 11:00 AM | Eventbrite

Join us Saturday, July 31 for a deep dive into the story of Tule Lake, unique among the 10 War Relocation Authority (WRA) concentration camps as the only maximum-security Segregation Center used to punish and deport Nikkei dissidents.

During WWII, the U.S. government viewed Japanese American dissenters as anti-American and disloyal. At Tule Lake, more than 12,000 Nikkei were segregated and punished for peacefully protesting the unjust forced removal and incarceration. In recent years, the dissidents segregated at Tule Lake are finally being recognized as the long-missing story of Japanese American civil rights resistance during incarceration.

For most of the past 75 years, the stories of Tule Lake’s activists were erased, the survivors shamed and silenced. The JACL considered civil rights protesters as “troublemakers” and “pro-Japan fanatics,” dismissing the moral and political courage at the core of resisting government abuses of power.

A new generation of Nikkei activists sees the connection between the unjust incarceration and the need to use our community’s moral authority to challenge similar injustices. Inspired by the courageous protesters at Tule Lake, a nationwide movement has grown to oppose the detention of children and families, and to advocate for redress and reparations to Black Americans for the harm of slavery, America’s original sin.

10:45 AM (Pacific) – Join early, meet and greet with friends
