Duration: 3 hr

The first of two critical hearings this week that will decide the fate of the Castro Theatre. While no public testimony will be heard at this hearing, your presence could make the difference.

Show up if you can to San Francisco City Hall, room 250. Bring friends, and come early to secure a seat. Wear red in solidarity with Save the Castro Theatre supporters!

The Board is expected to vote on an ordinance landmarking the interior of the Castro Theatre with the fixed seating and raked floor in the movie palace style intact.

But SF Supervisor Rafael Mandelman plans to introduce an amendment which would remove the fixed seats and raked floor from the landmarking that he himself proposed, paving the way for the theater’s remodel and conversion to a corporate-driven concert hall and nightclub that will be open less than half of the year and mostly in the evenings.

We want the Board to support full landmarking of SF’s last movie palace, and to oppose Mandelman’s plan to gut the theater.

For more information about the landmarking, including information on contacting your supervisor in advance of the hearing, visit savethecastrotheatre.org.
