As many of you know, the San Francisco Berniecrats held a special membership meeting last week to discuss and vote on the future of our club. Members weighed various options including dissolution; carrying on as best as we could in light of our greatly reduced numbers; merging with another club; becoming a caucus in another club; and running a caretaker operation focused solely on drafting, publishing, and distributing our trilingual voter guides.
Ultimately, we voted on three options: dissolution, carrying on, and running a voter guide only operation. Ten members voted for dissolution, four opted for voter guide-only, and three members abstained from voting.
Consequently, we will start the process of dissolving the San Francisco Berniecrats. There will be no new e-board elections, but a steering committee will be formed to ensure that all of our legal, financial, and other obligations are fulfilled. Members who paid dues for 2025 will receive refunds.
While the dissolution of our Berniecrats is a sad development, we can all take pride in our nearly decade-long run. We crafted successful local ballot measures and played a key role in bringing public housing to the fore. We helped countless candidates and ballot initiatives win. We produced the only trilingual voter guide in San Francisco. We became synonymous with the non-Democratic left in San Francisco—among both friends and foes.
And while soon our club will no longer officially exist, the friendships and connections we made here will remain and we will keep working together for the candidates and causes that reflect our values and the values of our club’s namesake—usually.
There may be some sort of farewell event; we’ll keep you updated on this and the dissolution process as we navigate it. We thank you all, Berniecrats old and new, for your contributions to this club, and we look forward to fighting the good fight with you for years to come!
A luta continua!
In Solidarity,
Berniecrats E-board
