Kathryn Lybarger (AFSCME, California Labor Federation)
Hey all!
I’m helping organize a great speaking event May 14th in Oakland – with Bill McKibben, Antonia Juhasz, Pennie Opal Plant, Juan Flores, Kathryn Lybarger and more. It’s focused on how California could be the first major oil economy to go fossil free – and lead a global transition to 100% renewable energy. It’s reinforcing an emerging campaign pushing Governor Brown on these issues, supports the broader Keep-It-In-The-Ground movement, and builds momentum towards mass mobilizing efforts in September around the Global Climate Action Summit in SF.
We’re actively looking for (and appreciate!) any promotional help – it’s a large 1300-person venue, and we think this could really support a lot of important work happening across the movement. We are happy to offer co-sponsorship of the event with allied organizations, offering organizational listing on event info, complimentary tickets, and tabling space in the lobby. We’ve got a Partner Packet here that offers event details, template email language, social media tools etc. If you are able to help, please contact Matt@350.org to coordinate.

About
Can California become the first major economy to go completely fossil free?
Join community and movement leaders to discuss how California can be a global model for how to transition from a major oil-producing state to a new economy based on equity, justice, and 100% renewable energy. From wildfires, droughts, oil spills, refinery and pipeline explosions, and deadly pollution – Californians already know how serious the climate crisis is, and have felt its impacts firsthand. The fossil fuel era is ending, and this is our opportunity to lead a global transition that protects our health, our environment, and our communities.
As Governor Jerry Brown hosts the Global Climate Action Summit this September 12-14 in San Francisco, we must be be clear about what real climate leadership looks like, and how California can lead the way on building a Fossil Free economy based on sustainability and justice.
