Monday, October 12, is the first day of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Hearings on the nomination of Judge Amy Corney Barrett for Supreme Court Justice.
This day is also Indigenous Peoples’ Day!! Why is this committee holding their hearing on this day??
Barrett’s nomination represents cementing a pro-fascist majority on a court that has already begun to erode women’s right to birth control and abortion, legalize discrimination against LGBTQ people, sabotage voting rights, eviscerate the separation of church and state and usher in white supremacist, Christian theocratic control.
It’s up to us to resist and say NO!
We will meet at Hastings College of Law, speak about the assault on the rule of law Barrett’s nomination is about.
**Dressed in the white bonnets and blood red cloaks of the dystopian Handmaid’s Tale outfits, Handmaids and all will progress in pairs to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals a living tableau exposing and opposing the real-life Christian fascist Handmaid’s Tale the Trump/Pence regime is aggressively hammering into place.
In a powerful culmination, the women will lift their heads and remove their cloaks and bonnets, throwing them onto the ground, raising their fists high in the air, and pledge:
We will not stand aside while there is still a chance to stop a regime that imperils humanity and the earth itself. Join us. Let’s stand together with conviction and courage, overcoming fear and uncertainty, to struggle with all we’ve got to demand: The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go. In the Name of Humanity, We REFUSE to Accept a Fascist America! This Nightmare Must End: The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go!
Host: Refuse Fascism
