Hollywood Strikes Show Why We Need Guaranteed Healthcare For All

For over 100 days, film and television writers have been on strike to ensure their profession remains a viable way to earn a secure living. The actors of SAG/AFTRA also face fundamental threats to their livelihoods in the increasingly precarious world of Hollywood film and television production so they have been on strike for two months.

In solidarity, Healthy California Now issued this statement:

Healthy California Now supports the striking writers and actors of the WGA and SAG/AFTRA in their fight for a fair and equitable contract. We recognize the threats to their standard of living posed by the business model of the Studios, which also jeopardizes their health security, since access to health coverage depends upon regular work. The immediate need is for writers and actors to be guaranteed a living wage and on-going work. The long-term struggle is to guarantee healthcare for all workers that is not dependent on the business model of employers.

Join us in this struggle, by helping to pass SB 770 this summer. We can take concrete steps now toward providing better care that costs less in an equitable single payer health care system.

Send an email to carolyn@healthyca.org to educate your legislator about SB 770.

Support strikers during this hot labor summer, and help make health security a reality for everybody in California.

In Solidarity,

Michael Lighty
President
