In one of its final acts of 2016, the United Nations General Assembly adopted with overwhelming support a landmark resolution to begin negotiations on a treaty prohibiting nuclear weapons. This historic decision heralds an end to two decades of paralysis in multilateral nuclear disarmament efforts.
Negotiations for a nuclear weapons ban treaty resume at United Nations headquarters tomorrow, June 15th.
Over 123 nations (not including the U.S) have come together to demand a treaty that BANS NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOREVER!
Throughout June and July of 2017, governments will negotiate a ban on nuclear weapons at the United Nations.
The Trump/Pence Regime calls for a new nuclear arms race: “If countries are going to have nukes, we’re going to be at the top of the pack,” says their leader. Dr. Ira Helfand, co-president of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War suggests that we have yet to absorb the full meaning of Donald Trump’s access to nuclear weapons; that the fate of the planet shouldn’t be in the hands of one person.
It is highly unlikely that the United States will agree to decrease its arsenal without massive opposition to capitalist intervention.
