Greetings Friends!

We want to let you know about a very exciting online event this Saturday, May 23rd, from 1 to 3 pm EST, featuring Professor Wolff and Yanis Varoufakis. This event is presented as part of The Left Education Project in collaboration with Democracy at Work.

A Discussion Between Richard Wolff & Yanis Varoufakis

The goal of this session is to gain a better understanding of what medium and long-term impacts might look like if there is a shift away from the Petrodollar, as well as what that would mean for American hegemony.

The US-Israeli war on Iran and its Axis of Resistance has already impacted global energy markets and access to essential elements like helium and phosphorus. We’re seeing wide-ranging global impacts, particularly concentrated in the Global South: the Philippines declared a state of emergency due to high gas prices, food aid meant for Sudan was stalled in the UAE, and Qatar declared force majeure on its LNG contracts with countries including France, Belgium, South Korea, and China. Professors Wolff and Varoufakis will openly explore these events and their potential outcomes together in hopes we can do what we can to prepare for what could be the greatest global economic shift of our lifetimes.

Registration for this online event is free, but seats are limited. There will be a Q&A session at the end of the discussion, moderated by Professor Shahram Azhar and Mike Tedesco. Audience members will have the opportunity to submit questions, but they will not be shown onscreen or audible to the rest of the audience.
