A report back from the presidential election.
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was recently elected to a second six-year term in office. His victory comes amid deep economic hardship that is causing hundreds of thousands of people to leave the country. While Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world, this wealth has contributed to many of its economic problems.
SPEAKERS:
ROGER HARRIS, past president and current board member of Task Force on the Americas, has written for Counter Punch, Dissident Voice, Venezuela Analysis, Truthout, TeleSUR, and Resumen Latino Americano.
TERI MATTSON is founder of The Intrepid News Fund, an organizer of the presidential election observation mission in Venezuela. She has organized political and educational delegations to several countries in Latin America.
SUSAN SCOTT, a member of the National Lawyers Guild, has organized numerous Guild delegations to observe and report on elections in Venezuela, Honduras and El Salvador, and has brought jurists from Venezuela to tour and meet with US lawyers and labor leaders.
