Michael Lyon, Health Advocate and Convener, San Francisco Gray Panthers, will speak about the importance of “Medicare for All” now being debated in Congress!
Michael was formerly a biomedical technician and knowledgeable about current policies regarding health care issues being considered at the local, state and national level. He has a Masters Degree in Microbiology and worked as a biomedical technician for 15 years at San Francisco General Hospital, where he became active in preserving San Francisco’s public health care and health care for poor and minorities; in opposing racism, particularly in medical care and public health; and in opposing police violence and mass incarceration. He has also been active in the campaign for single-payer, Medicare-for-All health care, but with a critical perspective.

Gates open at 11am, but once the line starts moving, it is impossible to get people to stop to sign a postcard. The time to talk with people is while they are lining up. The line will start early that’s why we ask you come at 9am.
We will be asking people to sign postcards in support of “The Medicare for All act of 2019”, HR 1384
We sort the cards by legislative district and mail them to the Congress Members with a note that says, “These constituents support Medicare for All. Please work hard to pass HR 1384.”

On March 25th, 2015: Saudi Arabia began launching airstrikes on the poorest country in the Arab world, #Yemen. Since 2015, over 60,000 Yemenis have been killed, over 85,000 Yemeni children have been starved to death. On March 25th, 2019, it will be FOUR YEARS of war. The war in Yemen has been called the “worlds worst humanitarian crisis in decades” and “the forgotten war”. This event is to remember Yemen and to hear stories of oppression and resistance from our communities.
Join us for a day of poetry and art, while we hear stories of peace and war-whether in Yemen, Oakland, Palestine, Sudan and beyond..our struggles are tied. We’d love to hear your story!
There will be an art exhibit, Arab tea and sweets, a short video about the war in Yemen and an open mic.

Join us for a discussion of the Yellow Vests phenomenon in France with featured Commune Magazine writer Rona Lorimer. Rona will be presenting an updated version of her “Yellow Vest Diaries,” beginning with Act 6, leading us up to the present. From her vantage point on the ground, Rona analyzes the ways in which the movement has developed since January. While continuing to explore the dynamics and events outlined in her original reflections, she hopes to draw out and discuss various conflicts which have arisen throughout the struggle, for instance, between fascists and anti-fascist resistance. Though the Yellow Vests have momentarily left the center spotlight, the struggle throughout France wages on.
Rona will reflect both on the French particularities of what’s made the movement so novel, and highlight the general features of this political moment as they have found expression in the Yellow Vest phenomenon.
