On June 17, President Trump announced raids to deport thousands of immigrants from cities across the country, including San Francisco. Although the sweeps, to have begun June 23, were postponed, immigrants, their supporters, and working people in general need to demand an end to all ICE raids and detentions.
The profit-driven policies of both Democratic and Republican politicians over the years have driven the economic, political, and environmental devastation that forces migrants and refugees to cross the U.S. border for survival. It’s time to reignite the movement to defend immigrants and hold the federal government accountable. Officials have shown that they cannot be trusted to respect the human and legal rights of migrants, so it is up to us to take action as supporters.
Join with other community members, advocates and activists to demand that Senators Harris and Feinstein, and Representatives Pelosi, Speier and others withhold all funding for deportation raids, shut down ICE, close detention centers, and reunite families.

During the 2nd world war, the Japanese Imperial Army set up a system for the sexual exploitation of what has been called ‘comfort women’. It included over 200,000 and there has been a worldwide movement to remember these women and to oppose all sexual slavery. Supporters of the San Francisco Comfort Women Justic Coalition worked to to build a monument to these women in. San Francisco and were met with organized resistance from the Japanese government which is denying that this took place which is called “denialism”. The sculpture was constructed and it has become an important center for remembrance and learning about this history to prevent it from taking place again.
Join Comfort Women Justice Coalition leader Judith “Mirk” Murkson who is also with the Lawyers Guild who will provide a history of the monument and what it means today.

In honor of Dujuan Armstrong Jr. who entered Santa Rita Jail for a weekend sentence and never came home, we’re providing material support and direct care to folks at Santa Rita Jail as a small but meaningful way to address the harm caused by incarceration in our community. We do not positively engage with the racist pigs who work at the jail, as they are willing agents of the state that criminalizes and incarcerates us.

Do No Harm Coalition has called this gathering to report back the data from our three year community commissioned project The Justice Study—an investigation into the health impacts of law enforcement violence. We seek community feedback on the analysis and strategy on releasing the data prior to any publication in the medical and public health literature or in the media.
For this gathering, we wish to continue our dialogue with and extend our service to those most impacted by police – particularly those who are black, brown, indigenous, trans, and poor. While all are welcome, we will centralize the concerns of these people.
DNHC was commissioned by the community fighting for justice for Mario Woods to create a research study that asked the question “If a police killing is the wound and the medicine is justice, what happens to our community health when the medicine is withheld?”
The research team from UCSF and Santa Clara University developed The Justice Study with community direction and has been engaged in a 3 year process. The scope of the study investigates all law enforcement violence—from police to ICE to FBI—and research tools are available in English and Spanish.
We seek input and guidance as we take our next steps to make this research as impactful as possible. We are grateful to have Radio Africa Kitchen hosting us!

Citing a growing child mental health crisis at their clinic, dozens of Kaiser Permanente Thrive therapists authorized a one-day strike if the HMO refuses to boost staffing in order to reduce intolerable appointment wait times and end overcrowding of group therapy sessions.
Kaiser mental health clinics are understaffed across California, and the HMO’s lone San Francisco clinic has reached a breaking point. Children, many of whom are dealing with depression, anxiety and the impacts of bullying, now have to wait four to six weeks for their first face-to-face visit with a Kaiser mental health therapist — and just as long or longer for a return appointment. Group therapy sessions for children who are self-harming and contemplating suicide have become so crowded that some children and their parents have to sit on the floor because there aren’t enough therapists to provide them the one-on-one care needed for successful early intervention. Today, NUHW filed a complaint with the California Department of Managed Health Care, the agency responsible for regulating HMOs, alleging that Kaiser is in violation of multiple state laws and requesting an investigation.
While Kaiser has refused to increase mental health staffing, it has announced the development of a new $900 million headquarters and agreed to pay the Golden State Warriors up to $295 million for naming rights to the sports and entertainment complex surrounding the Warriors’ new arena.
“Kaiser executives need to reverse their priorities,” NUHW President Sal Rosselli said. “They’re spending billions of dollars on buildings and branding deals, but they won’t spend a fraction of that to help kids get care that could save their lives.”

Luis Poot Pat, cousin of Luis Demetrio Gongora Pat, who was killed by SFPD on April 7, 2016, will be addressing the commission.
The family demands that these officers be fired and not suspended. The repetitive breach of policy on time and distance and deescalation, time and time again, results in the loss of life. SFPD remains unaccountable and the Police Commission waffles on ensuring appropriate consequences for the breaching of these norms that are the only assurance for protecting life that we have right now.
