1. Please Stop the Execution of Oscar Smith
SIGN: Please Stop the Execution of Oscar Smith (actionnetwork.org)
Mr. Smith is currently scheduled to be executed by the state of Tennessee on April 21, 2022. We are asking that Oscar be given an immediate reprieve to have his claims reviewed and that he be granted clemency on the grounds that his conviction was based, in part, on discredited junk science and at least two jurors have said they did not intend for Mr. Smith to be executed

2. Stop the Execution of Carl Buntion in Texas
SIGN: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/stop-the-execution-of-carl-buntion-in-texas/
Carl Buntion was convicted and sentenced to death in Texas for the 1990 murder of Houston officer James Irby. He is scheduled to be executed in Texas on April 21, 2022.
Carl Buntion has served 30 years in the harsh conditions of Texas’ death row. At age 78 he is too old and sick to pose any future danger: Buntion has hepatitis, arthritis, can barely walk

4. Stop the Execution of Richard Moore in South Carolina
SIGN: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/stop-the-execution-of-richard-moore-in-south-carolina/
Richard Moore is scheduled for execution in South Carolina on April 29 for the 1999 murder of James Mahoney while robbing a convenience store.
Moore, who is now 57 years old, has been on South Carolina’s death row for 21 years. SC Supreme Court Justice Kaye Hearn filed a dissent in Richard’s case arguing that he is clearly not the “worst of the worst”. Other Justices argued that he is eligible for a death sentence because the murder was aggravated during what became an armed robbery.
Richard Moore gets to “choose” between being killed by the electric chair or the firing squad by April 14th. He has an upcoming hearing before Judge Jocelyn Newman on Thursday the 14th to determine whether he can be forced to choose between the state’s electric chair and the firing squad. Moore is arguing that when he was sentenced in 2001, the state only had 2 methods of execution, lethal injection and electric chair, and his execution would have been carried out by lethal injection.

5. Stop the Execution of Carman Deck in Missouri
SIGN: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/stop-the-execution-of-carman-deck-in-missouri
Carman Deck is scheduled for execution in Missouri on May 3, 2022 for the 1996 murders of James and Zelma Long.
In continuing to schedule executions, Missouri makes itself an outlier in its use of the death penalty
for the last two years since the pandemic began, Missouri has been one of only five states that has carried out an execution – in both 2020 and 2021.
May 11, 2022, Wednesday
6. Stop the Executions of Clarence Dixon in Arizona
or his 1977 killing of Deana Bowdoin, a 21-year-old Arizona State University student.
If it takes place as scheduled, this would be the state’s first execution in eight years. Dixon has been on death row more than 40 years.

2. Tuesday, 4:30pm (PT); 7:30pm (ET), USA v Jessica Reznicek: Fighting the criminalization of Water Protectors
Online – register: Meeting Registration – Zoom
Since the No-DAPL movement dozens of states have passed critical infrastructure laws increasing criminal penalties for anyone taking action against destructive fossil fuel projects. In 2017 80 Republicans and 4 Democrats asked the Justice Department to prosecute Jessica Reznick and the valve turners as terrorists. Last year the justice department answered the call and applied a terrorism enhancement to Jessica’s case, doubling her sentence. In this webinar you will hear the voices of those standing up against criminalization of climate action.
on April 19th, the Campaign to Free Jessica Reznicek is marking our friend’s 250th day in prison by bringing people together across the continent to show solidarity with those incarcerated for their actions to resist violent corporations. The campaign will explain the significance of her case and its connection to a global trend against climate action and in the U.S. against movements led by Black and Indigenous peoples for liberation.

Bill Quigley: Longtime attorney of Jessica Reznicek

Virtual register: Webinar Registration – Zoom
Info will be provided after U register
This conversation will be held in Spanish with English interpretation.
For too long, U.S. immigration policy and climate policy has failed to acknowledge climate migration. It’s time we hold leaders accountable and urge them to address this existential crisis, while ensuring that Black and Brown immigrant communities are being centered in climate justice efforts.
Hear from Black, Mexican, and Central American migrants who organized their communities in the wake of Hurricane Mitch in 1998 and from migrants who were recently forced to migrate after Hurricanes Eta and Iota devastated countries in 2020. We will discuss the parallels between migration after climate disaster and time, emphasizing that migration is a form of adaptive resistance to the worsening climate crisis and that the U.S. must prepare itself to support present and future migrants displaced by the crisis. Lastly, we will learn about how migrant and Latinx communities in the U.S. have organized themselves to support climate migrants after migration and Latinx communities in their neighborhoods.
The featured speakers include Alejandra Girón, an organizer at Familias Unidas en Acción1 (FUA), Julio Guity, managing director of Sustainable Development and Climate Change, Inc. (SUDECC)2 and member of Central American Black Organization (ONECA), Alejandro Rodriguez, a coordinator at Living Hope Wheelchair Association3, and Carlos Lam, executive director of Association Guatemalans Without Borders.4

9. Friday, 10:00am, People’s Earth Day for Environmental and Climate Justice (SF)
In person, assemble at:
UN Plaza above Civic Center BART Station
SF
March around ending at SF City Hall around 12 Noon for rally
We’re joining friends at Bayview/Hunters Point Mothers and Fathers Committee, Greenaction, Youth vs Apocalypse and more to put the politics back into Earth Day! Enough with snacking on hamburgers made from all-organic grass-fed pedicured goats while people suffer and die from the toxic side effects of a production system that values neither the planet nor the human beings who live here.
Contamination at the Hunter’s Point Shipyard goes back to World War II – time to clean up. Instead of a center of toxic contamination, Bayview can be the birthplace of the real changes in distribution, consumption, investment and production we need to really move us toward the halving of our fossil fuel emissions that the climate situation demands.
This Earth Day, we call on those in the climate justice movement to fight with us to demand the cleanup of radioactive and toxic waste from our city. We call on those that recognize that at the root of the issues we face as low-income people, Black, Brown, Indigenous people, and as LGBTQ+ people, is a system profiting off of our struggles. We call on San Francisco to acknowledge our plight with climate injustice through actions.
We demand the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Mayor Breed, the USEPA, State Department of Toxic Substances Control, the State Water Quality Control Board, and all elected officials for the:
– Retesting with independent community oversight of Hunters Point Naval Shipyard Superfund site & adjacent areas
– Full and comprehensive cleanup of all contamination due to community vulnerability and due to the threat posed by rising sea levels and groundwater rise
– Full reparations including financial compensation and lifetime health services for all residents, ex-residents and workers exposed and impacted by Shipyard contamination
