Report # 325. THE FATE OF UKRAINIAN GIs IN KURSK REGION IS DOOMED

On October 24-25 President Vladimir Putin claimed during a press conference at the BRICS Summit in Kazan and additional interviews that up to 2,000 Ukrainian troops that tried to invade Kursk Region in continental Russia since August 6, 2024 in a much larger force (around 29,000) had been encircled by Russian Marines and other troops. He clarified that the area still controlled by that Ukrainian trapped contingent is around 5 km wide and 16 km long.
The group can be easily fired at from any direction by Russian heavy weapons fire. The encircled units have been cut off from the Russian-Ukrainian state border. Ukrainians have lost stable command and control of these units. All attempts of the AFU to break through the common border with the aim to unblock the Kiev regime’s engulfed troops or to reinforce them from Ukrainian territory have been foiled.
The initial Ukrainian invasion force pursued two major goals: first, to capture the Kursk NPP and use that action to blackmail Russia and Europe with a radioactive threat, and second, to exploit its initial territorial gains in the region to help the Democratic Party nominee win the 2024 U.S. presidential elections.
By October 26 this year, since the outset of the Ukrainian incursion in the Kursk Region, Russian Armed Forces have already destroyed more than 26,900 AFU servicemen, 177 tanks, 97 infantry fighting vehicles, 105 armored personnel carriers, 1,013 armored fighting vehicles, 692 motor vehicles, 229 artillery guns, 40 multiple rocket launchers and other military equipment there.
All of them have been delivered from central fronts in Donbass helping Russian troops to move quicker westwards than in 2022 when Moscow responded to an all-out Ukrainian aggression against Donbass that had started since April 2014 under the cover to combat alleged ‘terrorist activity.’
Russia is open to a “reasonable compromise” but won’t make any concessions to end its war in Ukraine, Putin underlined. He clarified that any potential talks on conflict resolution with Kiev should be based on the existing realities “on the ground” and take into account all legitimate Russian security concerns. In his words, Russia is ready to hold a dialogue on a peaceful settlement, but only based on draft agreements that Russian and Ukrainian negotiators initialed in Istanbul in spring 2022. However, such document has not been approved by Zelensky.
Putin also criticized ex-president Zelensky for not having cancelled his earlier decree banning all high-ranking officials, including himself, to hold peace talks with Moscow.
According to Russian MoD, in total, since the beginning of the Special Military Operation by October 26 this year, 647 Ukrainian aircraft, 283 helicopters; 34,329 unmanned aerial vehicles; 584 anti-aircraft missile systems; 18,877 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles; 1,480 MLRS combat vehicles; 16,773 field artillery guns and mortars, and 27,624 units of support military vehicles have been neutralized.
